Shadab Khan misses ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka with head injury

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has been ruled out of the decisive ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore due to medical concerns. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that the player was declared unavailable after suffering a blow to the head from a bouncer during the tournament's preceding match against the same opponents.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi officially confirmed Shadab's absence at the toss, where he won and elected to field first in the championship fixture. Faheem Ashraf was brought into the playing XI as his direct replacement, while Sri Lanka made a single change by bringing in Maheesh Theekshana for Eshan Malinga.

Shadab's absence is a significant blow to the hosts following his standout performance against England in the fourth match of the series. During that encounter, he rescued his side with a magnificent 113 runs off 96 balls, featuring 13 fours and five sixes, to help recover from a precarious 154-9.

Displaying exceptional resilience, the all-rounder shared an unbroken 84-run partnership with tail-ender Haris Rauf to orchestrate a dramatic one-wicket victory. That sensational win ultimately secured Pakistan's qualification for the tri-series final in Lahore, making his subsequent unavailability a major talking point.

The Pakistan Cricket Board maintains strict concussion and head injury protocols to ensure player safety following impacts from fast bowling deliveries. Medical staff assessed Shadab thoroughly before advising that he sit out the championship match to allow for proper recovery and monitoring.

The Gaddafi Stadium has played host to an engaging tri-series featuring high-intensity limited-overs encounters between top-tier international teams. Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka navigated through a demanding league phase to contest the final silverware of the competition.

Pakistan enters the title match looking to cap off a strong tournament campaign under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi. The team's pace attack and middle-order depth have been tested throughout the series, requiring contributions from across the squad.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, has shown competitive form throughout the tri-series, reaching the final with balanced performances with both bat and ball. The inclusion of Maheesh Theekshana adds considerable spin-bowling potency to their bowling attack for the Lahore showdown.

With Shadab sidelined, the middle order will need other players to step up and shoulder the responsibility in both innings. Faheem Ashraf slots into the lineup to provide additional all-round balance and seam-bowling options for the captain.

The winner of today's final will lift the tri-series trophy, concluding an action-packed window of limited-overs international cricket in Pakistan. Both teams are aiming to build crucial momentum ahead of upcoming major international assignments and global tournaments.
