Bangladesh call up Amite Hasan for second Test against West Indies

Wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan replaces injured Mominul Haque in the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Test in Sylhet.

Bangladesh call up Amite Hasan for second Test against West Indies

Bangladesh have been forced into a squad change for the upcoming second Test of their ICC World Test Championship series against West Indies, with wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan called up as a replacement. The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the adjustment following the first Test defeat, as the team prepares to host the second fixture in Sylhet starting on 5 November 2026.

Amite comes into the 15-member group in place of experienced batter Mominul Haque, who was ruled out due to injury. Mominul sustained a head injury while fielding during the opening encounter and was replaced by concussion substitute Jaker Ali during the match. In accordance with the governing body's player safety guidelines, Mominul must observe a mandatory minimum seven-day stand-down period before returning to competitive action.

The incoming Amite made his red-ball international debut earlier this year in June against Zimbabwe. Although he has played just one Test match so far, the uncapped-turned-replacement boasts a prolific domestic record in first-class cricket, having accumulated 4,040 runs across 54 matches at an impressive batting average of 50.50.

The rest of the squad remains largely unchanged under the leadership of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. The full 15-player traveling party features Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain, alongside Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, and the newly added Amite Hasan.

The squad update comes in the wake of a disappointing opening defeat for Bangladesh in the series, a result that impacted their position in the current World Test Championship standings. Despite securing a slender 27-run lead after the first innings, Bangladesh were ultimately undone by disciplined bowling, most notably from West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican, who claimed a match haul of nine wickets.

Chasing a target of 170 runs for victory in their final innings, West Indies secured an eight-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Openers Brandon King, who finished unbeaten on 81, and John Campbell, who contributed 49 runs, shared a commanding century partnership that efficiently dismantled the target and put the visitors ahead in the red-ball contest.

The defeat caused Bangladesh to slip one position in the ongoing World Test Championship table, moving from fourth down to fifth place. The standings update reflects the competitive nature of the current cycle as teams vie for crucial championship points toward qualification for the final.

The upcoming second Test in Sylhet represents an immediate opportunity for the hosts to bounce back and level the two-match series. Preparations are underway as both teams travel to the venue ahead of the scheduled start date, with Bangladesh seeking to rectify their batting collapses and West Indies aiming to seal a series victory away from home.
