Kusal Mendis confident Sri Lanka can handle green pitches in Pakistan

Sri Lanka Test captain Kusal Mendis has expressed full confidence in his squad's ability to cope with anticipated green pitches during their upcoming Test series in Pakistan. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Mendis stated that the experience within his batting ranks would be vital for managing challenging pace-friendly surfaces.

Mendis pointed to the presence of senior batters Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva as key assets for the side. He noted that the squad had previous experience playing on green pitches during past tours, including assignments in England.

Taking on the Test captaincy brings a distinct challenge compared to shorter formats, according to Mendis. He stated that he was pleased to take on the leadership role in the longest format of the international game.

The Sri Lankan squad has spent over a month in Pakistan preparing for the fixtures. Mendis acknowledged that the extended period confined largely to hotels and training facilities brought difficulties, but he praised the squad for keeping a positive atmosphere through team activities.

Mendis highlighted the balance within his bowling attack, noting the presence of experienced operators across first-class and international cricket. He also commended the recent performances of the team fast bowlers in limited-overs matches.

Concluding his remarks, the Sri Lankan captain expressed gratitude for the security and hospitality provided throughout the touring party's stay in Pakistan. The team now turns its attention to the opening match of the series.
