India and Pakistan captains skip handshake at U19 Asia Cup toss

India captain Lakshya Raichandani and Pakistan counterpart Farhan Yousaf opted against a customary handshake before their Group A clash in Oman.

India and Pakistan captains skip handshake at U19 Asia Cup toss

The India and Pakistan Under-19 captains declined to shake hands during the toss for their Asia Cup Group A encounter at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman on Sunday. The incident occurred as both teams prepared for the high-profile match.

India captain Lakshya Raichandani won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision to forgo the traditional pre-match handshake follows a trend observed in recent years across various levels of Indian cricket, including senior men's and women's international fixtures.

Following the toss, the match began with immediate drama as Pakistan fast bowler Ali Raza dismissed Raichandani on the second ball of the opening over. The Indian captain was clean bowled for a two-ball duck, leaving India at 0-1.

The tournament features several notable young players, including Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, who are part of the India Under-19 squad. Pakistan, led by Farhan Yousaf, entered the match following a nine-wicket victory over the UAE in their opening fixture.

This match holds significance for both sides as they look to progress in the tournament. India previously registered a 10-wicket win against Nepal, while Pakistan aims to build on their successful start to the campaign.

The result of this match will influence the standings in Group A, directly impacting the path for both Pakistan and India as they compete for a spot in the later stages of the Under-19 Asia Cup.
