Hanwha Life Esports eliminate G2 Esports from LoL Worlds 2026 with 2-0 sweep

Hanwha Life Esports kept their Worlds campaign alive while G2 Esports bowed out in 12th to 14th place.

Hanwha Life Esports eliminate G2 Esports from LoL Worlds 2026 with 2-0 sweep

Hanwha Life Esports secured a vital 2-0 victory over G2 Esports in the Swiss Stage of the League of Legends World Championship 2026, eliminating the European champions from the tournament. The LCK finalists bounced back from earlier struggles to completely outclass their opponents in a pair of decisive matches on Friday.

The series ended with G2 exiting the competition in 12th to 14th place, taking home US$125,000 in consolation prize money, while Hanwha Life progressed to the final round of the Swiss Stage to fight for a playoff spot. Both teams had entered the tournament as major contenders following strong domestic campaigns throughout the year.

G2 arrived at Worlds having swept all three LEC titles in 2026 and showcasing impressive international form, including a 3-0 victory over Gen.G in the First Stand semifinals. However, their momentum faltered in the Swiss Stage after opening defeats and mixed results left them fighting for survival.

Hanwha Life entered the series as reigning Mid-Season Invitational champions and the LCK's second seed, yet they also found themselves facing early elimination matches after losses to Gen.G and Shanghai Invictus Gaming earlier in the tournament. Friday's encounter demanded absolute focus from both powerhouses.

The opening game quickly turned into a high-tempo battle as G2 applied aggressive pressure in the bot lane to secure early kills. Hanwha Life responded by catching Rasmus Winther in the mid lane and securing neutral objectives to blunt the European side's initial advantage.

Choi Woo-je delivered an exceptional performance on K'Sante, anchoring team fights and providing crucial resilience as the game progressed. Jungler Seo Jin-hyeok also posed constant problems for the European squad with disciplined map control and timely interventions.

G2 made a desperate attempt to contest the Baron pit as Hanwha Life tightened their grip on the map. The LCK representatives swept the ensuing team fight, secured an ace, and destroyed the Nexus after 27 minutes with a 22-10 kill lead.

The second game followed a similarly volatile pattern in the early laning phase, with Sergen Çelik finding success in the top lane for G2 while kills were traded evenly across the map. Despite early skirmishing, G2 struggled to maintain their footing against mounting pressure.

Kim Geon-woo proved a formidable obstacle for G2, piloting Swain with immense durability while dealing significant damage in team fights. The European champions repeatedly overextended, allowing Hanwha Life to punish their mistakes and claw back control.

Hanwha Life pressed their advantage by securing the Baron and systematically dismantling G2's defenses across the lanes. After just 26 minutes of play, the LCK powerhouse completed the 2-0 sweep with a commanding 19-7 kill lead.

G2's elimination brings a disappointing end to a European campaign that held high expectations from analysts following their dominant regional season. The team failed to replicate their domestic supremacy on the global stage when it mattered most.

Hanwha Life now advance to the final round of the Swiss Stage, where they face Bilibili Gaming in a high-stakes series for a place in the Knockout Stage. The upcoming clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the tournament's opening phase.
