P.V. Sindhu qualifies for BWF World Tour Finals after five-year absence

India ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu has officially qualified for the prestigious BWF World Tour Finals, returning to the season-ending showpiece event for the first time since 2021. The Badminton World Federation confirmed the qualification on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the 31-year-old's illustrious career.

This upcoming appearance will be Sindhu's sixth career qualification for the elite tournament, which brings together the world's most consistent performers across the badminton calendar. Her previous absence from the competition stems back to 2022, when she successfully qualified but was forced to withdraw due to an untimely injury.

The season-ending tournament is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, running from December 9 to 13. The high-stakes event features the top-performing players competing for substantial prize money and ultimate year-end glory in the sport.

Sindhu secured her berth alongside a formidable group of international stars who have also sealed their places in the elite field. World-class competitors including An Se Young, Akane Yamaguchi, Wang Zhi Yi and Chen Yu Fei have similarly confirmed their participation for the Hangzhou tournament.

The qualification announcement arrives on the heels of strong recent form for the Indian star on the international circuit. Last week, Sindhu triumphed at the Hylo Open in Germany, displaying the competitive edge that ultimately cemented her place in the year-end standings.

Looking ahead to her immediate schedule, Sindhu is expected to continue her preparations on home soil. She will likely be in action next at the Syed Modi International, a tournament set to begin on November 24 in the city of Lucknow.

Sindhu holds a distinguished history at the year-ending tournament, remaining the only Indian player to ever capture the BWF World Tour Finals women's singles title. That historic triumph came in the 2018 final, where she defeated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara to lift the coveted trophy.
