Pakistan name Shaheens squad for Asia Cup Rising Stars title defence

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a 15-member Pakistan Shaheens squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars Championship 2026, which will be staged in Doha, Qatar. Middle-order batter Abdul Samad has been appointed to lead the side as the defending champions prepare to defend their continental title in the eight-team tournament running from November 19 to 29.

Pakistan have been placed in Group B alongside arch-rivals India, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. The defending champions will launch their campaign against the UAE on November 20 before taking on India in a highly anticipated encounter on November 22, followed by their final group fixture against Nepal on November 24.

The tournament brings together eight competitive teams split into two distinct groups for the preliminary round. Under the established competition format, every side plays within their respective group before the top two teams from each pool advance directly to the knockout stage.

The high-stakes semi-finals are scheduled to be played on November 26 and November 27. The victorious teams from these penultimate fixtures will then meet in the championship final on November 29 to decide the regional title holders.

Abdul Samad assumes the captaincy role, leading a carefully selected group that blends promising young prospects with players possessing valuable international exposure. His leadership in the middle order will be vital for the team's tactical approach during tense run chases.

The batting department boasts considerable depth with several dynamic stroke-makers. Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat and experienced campaigner Haider Ali are joined by exciting young talents Shahzaib Khan, Farhan Yousuf and Shamyl Hussain to form a formidable top and middle order.

Behind the stumps, Rohail Nazir has been named as the specialist wicketkeeper-batter. His presence provides additional stability and valuable experience to the squad's lower-middle order as well as calm authority during crucial phases of matches.

Pace bowling duties will be spearheaded by Mohammad Hasnain, whose express pace and significant international experience are expected to trouble opposition batters in the Qatari conditions. His ability to strike early will form a cornerstone of Pakistan's bowling strategy.

Hasnain will receive robust support in the pace department from a capable group of fast bowlers including Ahmed Daniyal, Akif Javed and Muhammad Imran Randhawa, giving the team multiple fast-bowling options across different match situations.

The spin bowling department offers diverse tactical variations to trouble opponents in the middle overs. Left-arm all-rounder Danish Aziz is joined in the slow-bowling attack by leg-spinner Saad Masood and left-arm wrist-spinner Sufyan Muqeem.

This comprehensive squad selection reflects the Pakistan Cricket Board's commitment to nurturing emerging talent while maintaining competitive excellence on the international stage. The balance between aggressive batting options and varied bowling choices equips the squad well for the Qatari pitches.

The rivalry match against India on November 22 stands out as one of the marquee fixtures of the opening round. Both traditional adversaries will look to assert early dominance in Group B before the tournament progresses toward the knockout rounds.

With preparations now officially underway following the squad announcement, the Pakistan Shaheens will aim to build early momentum in their opening fixture against the UAE. A strong start will prove essential as they navigate a challenging group stage featuring dangerous opponents.
