The New York Giants and cornerback Greg Newsome II have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension worth $46 million, securing the defensive standout's future with the NFC East franchise. The deal, announced on Monday, includes $32 million in guaranteed money and keeps Newsome tied to general manager Joe Schoen's roster through the 2029 campaign.
Newsome joined the Giants this past offseason on a one-year contract following a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 26-year-old cornerback was previously set to enter unrestricted free agency next year before earning this long-term commitment halfway through his first season in New York.
Operating under head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, Newsome secured a starting role during training camp. He has appeared in six of the Giants' seven games this season, helping propel the team to the top of the NFC East standings with a 4-2-1 record.
Reflecting on his role within the franchise after signing the extension, Newsome expressed a clear desire to build a lasting legacy in New York. He stated that he believes he is a top cornerback in the league and wants to prove it daily, adding that he hopes to eventually retire as a Giant.
The cornerback has recorded 25 total tackles, one interception and six pass deflections across six appearances for the Giants this season. His steady performances in the secondary have anchored a New York defense that entered the year with significant question marks.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Newsome spent the early portion of his professional career in Cleveland before being traded to Jacksonville midway through the 2025 season. Over 77 regular-season appearances, he has accumulated 232 tackles, five interceptions and one sack, alongside postseason experience with both of his previous organizations.
The Giants currently hold a 4-2-1 record and sit at the summit of the NFC East division standings as the mid-point of the regular season approaches. The team will look to maintain its momentum and defensive stability as the grueling campaign moves deeper into November.
