Lazio move three points clear at Serie A summit after beating Cagliari

Lazio moved three points clear at the top of Serie A on Sunday after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico. The result marks the Roman club's sixth consecutive league win, cementing their position as early title contenders.

Cagliari took an early lead through M'Bala Nzola in the 20th minute, but Lazio responded with goals from Gustav Isaksen and Andrea Pinamonti. The victory leaves Lazio with 28 points from their opening 10 matches, three points ahead of Inter Milan.

Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso urged caution despite the team's impressive start to the campaign, which represents the best opening in the club's history. Gattuso insisted that the primary objective remains securing safety, noting that the side still requires 12 more points to reach their target.

"We need to get our heads down and work, and not look at the table," Gattuso said. The match was played in front of partially empty stands as a section of the club's supporters continued a protest against owner and president Claudio Lotito.

Lazio last claimed the Serie A title in 2000. Their current form has seen them pull away from Inter Milan, who dropped points following a defeat in the Milan derby, while Roma remain in third place with 24 points.

Lazio will look to maintain their momentum when they face Napoli next weekend. Napoli currently sit eighth in the standings following their recent defeat to Juventus, and they will host the league leaders in a high-stakes encounter.
