West Indies expect strong Bangladesh response in World Test Championship finale

Head coach Daren Sammy warns his side against complacency ahead of the second Test in Sylhet.

West Indies expect strong Bangladesh response in World Test Championship finale

West Indies are determined to maintain their momentum and secure an away victory in Bangladesh as the two-match World Test Championship series concludes in Sylhet this week. Having claimed a 1-0 lead in the opening fixture, the touring side is fully aware of the threat posed by the hosts in the upcoming encounter starting November 5.

The visitors currently sit eighth in the World Test Championship standings with a Points Percentage of 26.92 after securing their third win of the ongoing cycle from 13 matches. Meanwhile, Bangladesh held fourth position in the table prior to the series following an impressive Test victory against Australia earlier in the campaign.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy acknowledged the competitive nature of opposition coach Phil Simmons and anticipated a fierce reaction from the home team in the series decider. He stated that the opponents would not make things easy and noted that both sides are pursuing their own targets within the current championship cycle.

Sammy praised the hunger, determination and attention to detail shown by his players as they prepare for the final fixture of the cycle. He expressed confidence that his squad will be ready to tackle the challenge in Sylhet and finish the assignment with a successful away result in demanding conditions.

Reflecting on the progress made during the current championship, Sammy pointed out that the team is finally settling into established roles. He highlighted the performance of the bowling attack, noting that the visiting spinners outperformed their counterparts while the batsmen adapted effectively to spin bowling.

The head coach also commended the leadership of captain Roston Chase, who assumed the role at the start of the current cycle. Sammy noted that Chase maintained his voice and authority throughout a challenging first year as Test captain, capped by a notable hundred.

The upcoming fixture in Sylhet, scheduled from November 5 to 9, marks the final outing for West Indies in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle. The opening Test of the series took place in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, concluding with a victory for the touring team.
