Mainpat Titans win inaugural Chhattisgarh Hockey League title

The Mainpat Titans secured the inaugural Chhattisgarh Hockey League title on November 1, defeating the Sanskardhani Strikers 4-2 at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium in Raipur. The final was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

The Titans established an early lead in the first quarter when Abhishek Yadav scored from a penalty corner rebound. Although the Strikers equalised in the second quarter through a goal from Prahalad Rajbhar, the Titans regained their advantage in the third period via a penalty corner conversion from Sandeep Kumar.

The Strikers levelled the match again at 2-2 through Sarikh Ahmed, but the Titans pulled away in the final stages. Mohit Nayak scored two decisive goals, including a powerful tomahawk strike, to secure the victory for his side in the closing minutes of the match.

The tournament, which spanned 12 days, was organised by the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare of the Government of Chhattisgarh and sanctioned by Hockey India. It featured six franchise teams and aimed to provide a competitive platform for local athletes to play alongside prominent Indian players.

Following the match, the Titans received a winner's prize of Rs 11 lakh, while the runners-up, the Sanskardhani Strikers, were awarded Rs 6 lakh. The total prize pool for the inaugural edition of the league was Rs 21 lakh.

Individual honours were also presented at the conclusion of the event. Shahrukh Ali was named Player of the Tournament, while Ashish Tani Purti finished as the top scorer with 13 goals. Himanshu was recognised as the best goalkeeper, and Mohit Nayak was named the best player from Chhattisgarh.
