Pakistan is set to expand golf beyond the federal capital with new government measures aimed at introducing and promoting the sport in cities across the country. Prime Minister's Adviser on Tourism Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan announced the nationwide initiative during the Movenpick Golf Cup at Margalla Greens Golf Club in Islamabad on Sunday.
Sardar Yasir stated that the promotional drive aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's broader vision of fostering tourism and athletic culture throughout Pakistan. Highlighting the broader objectives of the initiative, the adviser announced that the Movenpick Golf Cup will now become an annual fixture on the national sporting calendar. He emphasized that outstanding individual performances will be formally recognized and encouraged to cultivate a competitive environment among local athletes.
The tournament attracted leading domestic golfers alongside members of the diplomatic corps, creating a platform for athletic engagement and international relationship-building. General Manager Nicolas Verdun praised the initiative, pointing to the value of high-profile sporting gatherings in enhancing global engagement within Pakistan.
The well-attended event featured several prominent figures, including Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Wing Commander Khokhar, and other notable personalities. Participants and organizers expressed optimism that regular tournaments and structured development programs will successfully broaden the sport's appeal nationwide.
