Kamran Akmal praises Pakistan Cricket Board infrastructure development

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has praised the Pakistan Cricket Board for its ongoing efforts to modernise cricket infrastructure and improve player development facilities during a visit to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

During his tour of the high-performance facility, the former Test cricketer was briefed on various departments, ongoing development projects, and the modern training models implemented to prepare emerging players for professional competition.

PCB Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed accompanied the former international and detailed the technical upgrades designed to enhance player fitness, skill levels, and overall on-field performance across all age groups.

One of the standout moments of the visit was a demonstration of the modern bowling machine recently installed at the Bob Woolmer Indoor School, aimed at sharpening batting techniques against varied pace and movement.

Kamran also inspected the ongoing development work at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, where significant infrastructure improvements are underway to provide better playing and training conditions for domestic cricketers.

Expressing satisfaction with the professional approach adopted by the governing body, Kamran stated that the comprehensive upgrades would yield positive long-term results for the development of Pakistan cricket.

He emphasised that equipping young cricketers with modern training facilities and a supportive environment remains essential for polishing their skills before they transition to regional and departmental levels.

The former wicketkeeper specifically welcomed the establishment of a dedicated biomechanics laboratory at the academy and the construction of modern dressing rooms at the Lahore City Cricket Association venue.

He added that it was encouraging to witness systematic development taking place across multiple tiers, noting that the domestic setup has long required such advanced infrastructure to strengthen its future talent pipeline.

Aaqib Javed provided further technical insights into the academy's operational plans, revealing that 19 distinct pitches have been prepared at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground to simulate varied match scenarios.

According to the high-performance director, these diverse surfaces enable players to practise under a wide range of playing conditions and develop the tactical adaptability required to succeed at higher levels.

Aaqib also explained that a new practice wicket is curated at the National Cricket Academy every Monday, granting athletes five days of continuous exposure to changing pitch characteristics.

Highlighting grassroots initiatives, the board has introduced a Level One coaching course tailored for outstanding Under-15 players, designed to nurture young talent while simultaneously cultivating the next generation of coaches.

Looking ahead, Aaqib announced that the Pakistan Cricket Board will soon inaugurate a new High Performance Centre in Peshawar to expand training opportunities and decentralise elite player development across the country.

The latest infrastructural investments reflect the board's broader strategic vision to overhaul grassroots systems, elevate coaching standards, and build a robust, sustainable pathway for emerging cricketers throughout Pakistan.
