Cricket West Indies confirms international retainer contracts for 2026-27 season

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially announced its international retainer contracts for the 2026-27 season, covering a period from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027. The board confirmed 15 men and 15 women have received senior contracts, with an additional three men awarded development deals.

The leadership structure remains consistent, with Shai Hope continuing as captain for the ODI and T20I teams, while Roston Chase retains his role as Test captain. Hayley Matthews continues to lead the senior women's side as the group prepares for upcoming international assignments.

Several players earned their first international retainer contracts, including opener John Campbell, who returns to the fold following a productive 2025-26 season. Matthew Forde and Amir Jangoo also secured their first senior contracts after strong performances in white-ball and Test cricket respectively.

Jangoo’s inclusion follows a standout performance in June, where he scored a career-best 233 against Sri Lanka. His 401-run partnership with Chase during that match established a new world record for the sixth wicket in Test cricket history.

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasized that these contracts are strategically aligned with the team's immediate goals. He noted that the men’s squad is prioritizing the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled for February 2027.

For the women's team, the focus is on the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan in December. Bascombe stated that the series serves as a critical opportunity for the team to secure automatic qualification for the next ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The women's squad features Mandy Mangru, who earned her first retainer contract following the team's semi-final appearance at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry enter the final year of their existing two-year agreements.

The men's senior list includes Hope, Chase, Campbell, Forde, Jangoo, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Jomel Warrican, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jayden Seales. Development contracts were awarded to Jewel Andrew, Ackeem Auguste, and Vitel Lawes.

The women's senior list comprises Matthews, Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Jannillea Glasgow, Realeanna Grimmond, Shawnisha Hector, Henry, Zaida James, Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack, and Stafanie Taylor.

Pakistan is set to host the West Indies women's team in December for a three-match ODI series. This contest is vital for the visitors, who are aiming to improve their standing to ensure direct entry into the next global 50-over tournament.
