New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson returned to the practice field on Wednesday, marking a significant step in his recovery from a right hamstring injury. The first-round draft pick had been sidelined since August 13.
Tyson, who was selected eighth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, suffered the injury during a joint practice session against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was officially designated for return from injured reserve earlier this week.
Speaking to reporters after his first session back, the receiver expressed optimism about his physical condition. "I ran the fastest I ran since I been here in rehab. I feel more explosive than I ever have," Tyson said.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed that Tyson participated in a limited capacity on Wednesday. The team is currently monitoring his progress throughout the week to determine his availability for the upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns.
The injury occurred when Tyson landed awkwardly following a contact play during the preseason. Despite his history of injuries in college, the receiver clarified that this specific setback was the result of a collision rather than a non-contact strain.
Quarterback Tyler Shough noted the potential impact of Tyson’s return on the struggling Saints offense. He highlighted the rookie's versatility and mentality as assets that could provide a much-needed boost to the team's production.
The Saints currently hold a 2-5 record and have faced challenges with offensive consistency throughout the first half of the season. Tyson is expected to contribute as both a playmaker and a blocker once he is fully acclimated.
The medical staff will continue to manage his workload as he transitions back into team activities. The team has not yet confirmed if he will be active for Sunday's matchup, choosing to prioritize his long-term health.
