Odisha FC and Punjab FC Prepare for ISL 2026-27 Opener

Odisha FC and Punjab FC prepare to face each other in their opening match of the Indian Super League 2026-27 season on October 14. Both clubs enter the new campaign aiming to improve upon their previous performances and establish themselves in the top tier of Indian football.

Odisha FC will look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign after finishing eleventh in the previous season. The team, known as the Juggernauts, aims to return to the upper half of the league table under the guidance of new head coach T. G. Purushothaman.

The club continues to play its home matches at the Kalinga Stadium, a venue famous for hosting memorable encounters and where the team lifted its maiden and only silverware, the Super Cup, in past seasons.

To address shortcomings from the previous term, Odisha FC has actively strengthened its squad during the transfer window by recruiting several experienced overseas players. Punjab FC will be led into the new season by a new head coach, Greek tactician Pavlos Dermitzakis. The incoming coach takes charge of a squad that has retained much of its core domestic talent while introducing fresh tactical options.

A key pillar of Punjab FC's philosophy remains its strong emphasis on youth development. The club has included 10 academy graduates in its 27-member squad for the upcoming campaign, highlighting a commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.

Punjab FC has also integrated new foreign and domestic recruits during the transfer window, including Diego Raposo from Brazil and Portugal, Mickaël Malsa from Martinique and France, and Cameroonian players Patrick Bahanack and Raphaël Messi Bouli. Additional signings feature Spanish player Alfred Planas, Nishchal Chandan, Mohammad Inam, and Gurkirat Singh.

The tactical battle between coaches T. G. Purushothaman and Pavlos Dermitzakis will be a major talking point as the two sides clash on the opening night of the tournament.

Supporters of both clubs are expected to tune in closely via the official broadcast channels to witness how the newly assembled squads perform in their first official outing of the season.
