Churchill Brothers and Inter Kashi prepare for ISL 2026-27 openers

Churchill Brothers make their Indian Super League debut while Inter Kashi field an all-Indian squad for the new campaign.

Churchill Brothers and Inter Kashi prepare for ISL 2026-27 openers

The 2026-27 Indian Super League season is set for a significant opening weekend as Churchill Brothers prepare for their debut in the top-flight competition. The Goa-based club will face former champions Mumbai City FC at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao this Sunday.

Churchill Brothers secured their place in the Indian Super League following the acquisition of Jamshedpur FC. This transition occurred after Tata, the parent company of Jamshedpur FC, announced the closure of the club's senior first team due to financial constraints.

The Red Machines have assembled a squad featuring goalkeepers Anuj Kumar and Sayad Kadir. The defensive line includes Gaurav Bora, Alexandre Yeoule, Kingslee Fernandes, Lianzela, Lalremruata Ralte, Maibam Singh, Parag Shrivas, Provat Lakra, and Wahengbam Angousana.

The midfield options for Churchill Brothers include Anil Gaonkar, Dramane Salou, Gourav Kankonar, Phijam Meetei, Richard Costa, and Sebastian Atehortua. Their attacking lineup consists of John Okoli, Stendly Fernandes, Trijoy Dias, Vincy Barretto, and Wayde Lekay.

Elsewhere, Inter Kashi are preparing for their second season in the Indian Super League. They are scheduled to face Kerala Blasters in their opening match of the 2026-27 campaign at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Sunday.

Inter Kashi finished 10th in the 14-team league last season. During that debut campaign, the club recorded three wins, six draws, and four losses, and they are now looking to improve upon that performance under new conditions.

A notable development for Inter Kashi is their decision to field an all-Indian squad for the current season. The club registered 22 players ahead of a FIFA transfer-registration ban that has impacted their roster construction.

The Inter Kashi squad features goalkeepers Albino Gomes, Shubham Balasaheb Dhas, and Mohit Singh Dhami. The defensive unit comprises Laldinliana Renthlei, Pratik Chaudhari, Gursimrat Singh Gill, Nishchal Chandan, Leewan Castanha, Sajad Hussain Parray, Aritra Das, Tanush Pandey, and Sumeet Passi.

The midfield for Inter Kashi includes Hitesh Sharma, Jitendra Singh, Karthik Jithendran Panicker, Wayne Vaz, and Ashangbam Aphaoba Singh. Their forward line is composed of Manvir Singh, Rosenberg Gilbert Gabriel, Sreekuttan V S, Ayush Chhikara, and Thoi Singh Huidrom.

The club has seen significant departures during the off-season, including foreign players Nauris Petkevicius, Alfred Planas, Sergio Llamas, David Humanes, and Lluis Tarres. Several Indian players, such as Nishu Kumar and Prabir Das, have also left the club.

Fans of both clubs can access live coverage of the matches throughout the season. All games involving Churchill Brothers and Inter Kashi will be available for free streaming on YouTube and SonyLIV platforms.

In addition to digital streaming options, the majority of the matches for both teams are scheduled to be broadcast on the Sony Sports Network. This ensures widespread coverage for supporters across the country during the 2026-27 season.

The inclusion of Churchill Brothers marks a new chapter for the historic club as they step into the Indian Super League environment. Their match against Mumbai City FC will be a test of their readiness for the top-tier competition.

Inter Kashi's commitment to an all-Indian squad represents a unique strategy within the league. The performance of their domestic players will be closely monitored as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.

The league structure continues to evolve with the entry of new entities and the departure of established ones. The shift from Jamshedpur FC to Churchill Brothers highlights the dynamic nature of club ownership in Indian football.

As the season progresses, the tactical adjustments made by both coaching staffs will be critical. Both teams will be aiming to establish momentum early in the campaign to secure a favourable position in the standings.

The Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune will serve as a key venue for Inter Kashi's home fixtures. The atmosphere at the stadium is expected to be vibrant as the team seeks a positive start against Kerala Blasters.

At the Fatorda Stadium, Churchill Brothers will look to leverage home advantage in their inaugural ISL match. Mumbai City FC, known for their competitive pedigree, will provide a stern challenge for the newcomers.

The registration of 22 players for Inter Kashi reflects the constraints imposed by the transfer ban. The depth of their squad will be tested as the season unfolds and injuries or suspensions inevitably occur.

With the season opener approaching, both clubs have completed their preparations. The focus now shifts to the pitch, where the results of these strategic changes will be determined over the coming months.
