Bangladesh bowlers strike early before West Indies recover in second Test

Bangladesh bowlers strike early before West Indies recover in second Test

Bangladesh made a strong start with the ball on the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies in Sylhet on Thursday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the visitors were reduced to 27-3 within the first hour of play.

Taskin Ahmed spearheaded the Bangladesh attack, producing a disciplined new-ball spell that accounted for two of the early wickets. Despite the initial collapse, Kevin Wickham, on his Test debut, and Amir Jangoo steadied the innings with a resilient partnership.

The pair combined for an unbroken 59-run stand to guide the West Indies to 101-3 by the lunch interval. Wickham displayed solid technique in his maiden appearance, while Jangoo played with positive intent to help the tourists recover from their precarious position.

West Indies captain Roston Chase made two changes to his side, handing a debut to Wickham and recalling Joshua Da Silva in place of the unavailable John Campbell and Tagnarine Chanderpaul. Bangladesh also made two adjustments, bringing back Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin.

The hosts, who trail 1-0 in the two-match series following an eight-wicket defeat in Dhaka, will look to break the partnership quickly in the afternoon session. The pitch is expected to deteriorate, with spinners likely to play a larger role as cracks widen.

Brief scores: West Indies 101-3 (30.1 overs; Amir Jangoo 40*, Kevin Wickham 36*; Taskin Ahmed 2-36) vs Bangladesh.
