Bhattacharjee and Chitale Secure Titles at National Ranking Table Tennis Championships

Ankur Bhattacharjee and Diya Chitale delivered standout performances to claim the men’s and women’s singles titles at the second National Ranking Table Tennis Championships. The event concluded at the Tau Devi Lal Indoor Hall in Panchkula, Haryana.

Both champions were forced to navigate challenging seven-game encounters to secure their respective victories. The tournament, which drew top talent from across the country, concluded with high-intensity matches that tested the composure and technical skill of the finalists.

In the men’s singles final, Ankur Bhattacharjee faced a stern challenge from Maharashtra’s Raegan Albuquerque. Despite trailing 1-2 at one stage during the contest, Bhattacharjee mounted a successful comeback to win the see-saw match 4-3.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Bhattacharjee, who secured his first title of the current season. His path to the final included a convincing 4-1 victory over Railways’ Jeet Chandra in the penultimate round of the tournament.

Raegan Albuquerque reached the final after an impressive 4-2 win against the second-seeded Manav Thakkar in the semifinals. Thakkar, a prominent figure in the circuit, had previously defeated Bhattacharjee in the semifinals of the earlier Kanpur leg.

The women’s singles final proved equally competitive, with Diya Chitale overcoming West Bengal’s Syndrela Das in a 4-3 thriller. The match remained tightly contested throughout, with neither player able to establish a dominant lead during the early stages.

The two finalists were locked at 3-3 before Chitale managed to edge ahead in the deciding game. Her ability to maintain focus under pressure ultimately proved the difference as she secured the championship title in a tense finish.

The 17-year-old Syndrela Das demonstrated remarkable skill throughout the final, particularly with her backhand play. She showed no hesitation in taking the initiative whenever opportunities arose, forcing the match into a tense decider before eventually falling short.

Das capitalized on moments where Chitale’s form dipped, staging a memorable comeback during the middle games. However, Chitale managed to hold onto her slender advantage in the final game to clinch the title against the rising youngster.

In her semifinal appearance, Syndrela Das had demonstrated her resilience by defeating Sutirtha Mukherjee in a seven-game marathon. Meanwhile, Chitale secured her spot in the final by sweeping aside Swastika Ghosh with a comfortable 4-1 scoreline.

The tournament also featured competition in the U-19 age categories, where young talent showcased their potential. Priyanuj Bhattacharyya emerged victorious in the boys’ singles event, defeating Tamil Nadu’s PB Abhinand in a straight-games victory in the final.

In the girls’ U-19 category, Divyanshi Bhowmick claimed the title. She secured a 4-1 victory in the final against Syndrela Das, who was competing in her second major final of the tournament following her women's singles appearance.

The Tau Devi Lal Indoor Hall provided the venue for these matches, which form part of the ongoing national ranking circuit. The event serves as a crucial platform for players to earn ranking points and gain match experience.

The competitive nature of the finals highlights the depth of talent currently present in Indian table tennis. With several matches extending to the full seven games, the tournament emphasized the physical and mental endurance required at the elite level.

Bhattacharjee’s win represents a positive turnaround following his previous exit in the Kanpur leg. By overcoming a deficit in the final, he demonstrated the tactical adjustments necessary to compete against top-tier domestic opposition in a high-pressure environment.

Chitale’s consistency throughout the event allowed her to navigate a difficult draw. Her ability to close out the final against a determined opponent like Das underscores her current standing as one of the leading players in the women’s circuit.

The performance of young players like Syndrela Das and Priyanuj Bhattacharyya suggests a promising future for the sport. Their ability to challenge established players in high-stakes matches is a positive indicator for the national talent pool moving forward.

As the national ranking season progresses, players will look to build on these results in upcoming fixtures. The points gathered in Panchkula will be instrumental in determining the final standings for the season across various age categories.

The tournament concluded with officials noting the high standard of play maintained throughout the duration of the event. The matches provided a platform for both established stars and emerging talents to showcase their development on the national stage.

With the second leg now complete, the focus shifts to the next stages of the national calendar. Players will continue to refine their strategies as they prepare for the subsequent ranking tournaments scheduled for the coming months.
