Isack Hadjar considers himself lucky to race alongside Max Verstappen

Red Bull Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar has described himself as very fortunate to be partnered with four-time world champion Max Verstappen, acknowledging that he is competing against the Dutchman during the absolute peak of his illustrious career in motorsport.

Hadjar, who recently secured a contract extension to remain with the Milton Keynes-based outfit through the 2027 season, has faced the notoriously difficult task of stepping into the garage alongside one of the sport's most dominant modern drivers.

Speaking candidly on Formula 1's official Beyond The Grid podcast, the 22-year-old detailed the reality of measuring himself against Verstappen on a daily basis, admitting that experiencing such a high benchmark so early is an invaluable opportunity.

The young driver explained that he recognizes he is facing the very highest level of performance achievable in Formula 1 right now, and because of this unique circumstance, he considers himself an exceptionally lucky individual and remains deeply thankful.

Rather than feeling intimidated by the daunting presence of his decorated teammate, Hadjar embraced the competitive nature of the challenge, noting that heading into every single session knowing Verstappen will set a formidable benchmark completely changes the dynamic.

The challenge of needing to match and ultimately overcome that benchmark provides an exciting motivation that differs from anything he has previously encountered throughout his racing career, forcing continuous adaptation and sharpening his professional approach.

While Hadjar noted that his own single-lap pace often compares reasonably well with his teammate's data, he quickly conceded that Verstappen's execution on race days remains virtually unparalleled in the modern grand prix paddock.

Reflecting on his expectations versus the reality on track, the Red Bull youngster confirmed that Verstappen has performed exactly as anticipated, translating his legendary reputation into consistent, flawless on-track execution week in and week out.

Hadjar pointed out that Verstappen possesses a rare ability to consistently deliver what other drivers only aim for in their minds, noting that while most competitors experience slight gaps between ambitions and actual delivery, the Dutchman maintains remarkable consistency.

The Red Bull driver highlighted the absence of low moments in Verstappen's performances, pointing out that the four-time champion makes virtually no mistakes and unfailingly places his car in the right position at the correct time.

Elaborating on the specific difficulties of outperforming the veteran, Hadjar explained that while other drivers might master a handful of corners on a given circuit, Verstappen matches those peaks while maintaining that same elite level across every single remaining turn.

This unwavering consistency across an entire lap is what ultimately creates the decisive lap time difference, with Hadjar adding that the data rarely reveals an unreplicable trick, but rather a relentless frequency of absolute perfection.

Describing his teammate's telemetry and performance curve, Hadjar used a flat-line analogy to illustrate how the Dutchman operates permanently at the absolute summit of performance without suffering from noticeable competitive peaks and troughs.

This formidable consistency is precisely what cements Verstappen's status as such a relentlessly tough competitor within the Formula 1 field, keeping every teammate under intense scrutiny throughout the demanding global championship calendar.

The comments arrive amid a period of significant structural stability and personnel updates within the Red Bull organization, following a series of strategic moves designed to secure the team's long-term competitive future at the top.

Earlier in the week, Red Bull announced that team principal Laurent Mekies has signed a long-term contract extension keeping him at the helm through the end of the 2031 season, with the major announcement made by shareholder Mark Mateschitz.

Mekies took over the team principal role last year following the departure of Christian Horner, and the new multi-year commitment signals a strong vote of confidence in leadership stability as Red Bull continues its development under current regulations.

The team has also been heavily involved in competitive action away from the grand prix circuit, with Max Verstappen recently making headlines by participating in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup at the Algarve circuit in Portimao.

Verstappen's presence in the GT3 category at Portimao generated substantial excitement across the motorsport world, featuring notable matchups against legendary figures such as MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi competing within the top Pro class.

As the Formula 1 season progresses towards its concluding rounds, Red Bull continues to fight fiercely in the Constructors' Championship standings, with strong performances from both Verstappen and his teammates keeping pressure on their rivals.
