The 52-year-old manager had been in charge since September 2025, taking over from Graham Potter. However, he was unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation from the Premier League last season after a difficult campaign.

Despite entering the Championship as one of the pre-season favourites for an immediate return to the top flight, West Ham have struggled for consistency. They currently find themselves four points adrift of the automatic promotion places and six points behind league leaders Middlesbrough.

Recent results compounded the pressure on the coaching staff, with the team winning only two of their last six fixtures. Back-to-back home defeats, including a 3-2 loss against Southampton prior to the weekend reverse against West Bromwich Albion, ultimately forced the club's board into action.

Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left their roles with immediate effect. The club confirmed that the recruitment process for a permanent successor is already underway.

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of the first team. The trio will lead the squad for their upcoming Championship fixture away against Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club's objectives and expectations remain on track, a club statement read.

The club expressed gratitude to the departing coaching staff for their efforts during their tenure. West Ham United would like to thank Nuno, Rui and Rui for their hard work and commitment during their time at the club, and wish them all the very best for the future.

The loss at the London Stadium has left supporters frustrated, with patience for the manager reportedly wearing thin. The team's inability to secure points against West Brom has raised significant concerns regarding the current tactical direction of the squad.

Nuno, who took charge of the Hammers with the expectation of pushing for European qualification, has struggled to maintain the form required to satisfy the club's hierarchy. Recent performances have failed to meet the standards set by the board.

The atmosphere at the stadium has become increasingly tense, with fans expressing their dissatisfaction as the final whistle blew. The manager acknowledged the weight of the situation, noting that the team is always under pressure to deliver results.

Despite the high expectations placed upon the squad at the start of the season, the team has found it difficult to adapt to the manager's preferred style of play. This disconnect has manifested in a series of underwhelming displays.

West Ham currently finds itself in a precarious position in the league standings. The lack of points from recent fixtures has left the club languishing in the bottom half of the table, far from their intended targets.

The board is expected to review the manager's position in the coming days. While there has been no official statement regarding his immediate future, the pressure on Nuno is clearly mounting as the season progresses into November.

Nuno has previously managed several high-profile clubs, but his time at West Ham is proving to be one of his most challenging periods. The tactical rigidity often associated with his teams has become a point of contention.

The players have also come under fire for their lack of intensity during the match against West Brom. Critics point to a lack of cohesion in the final third, which has hindered the team's ability to score goals.

The club's recruitment strategy during the summer transfer window is also being questioned. Several high-profile signings have yet to make the impact expected, leaving the manager with limited options to rotate his squad effectively.

West Ham's defensive frailties were once again exposed during the defeat. The backline, which was expected to be a pillar of strength this season, has looked vulnerable against teams that employ a high-pressing style of play.

The upcoming international break may provide a period of reflection for the club's management. However, the immediate focus remains on the next fixture, which is seen as a must-win game to restore confidence among the supporters.

Supporters have taken to social media and radio phone-ins to voice their concerns about the direction of the club. Many are calling for a change in leadership, citing the lack of progress made under Nuno's guidance.

The manager remains determined to turn things around, insisting that the squad has the quality to compete at the highest level. He has urged the players to remain focused and committed to the club's long-term objectives.

As the situation develops, the focus will shift to the training ground where Nuno will look to address the tactical shortcomings. Whether he will be given the time to implement his vision remains the primary question for the board.
