The club announced the tragic news on Tuesday morning, confirming that the player passed away at 08:00 local time at the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Senora de Candelaria. Medical updates issued earlier in the day had indicated a sharp neurological deterioration after he was rushed to intensive care directly from the pitch.

CD Tenerife released an emotional statement expressing profound grief over the sudden loss of their striker. The club said they were heartbroken and unable to believe the tragedy, offering full support to the grieving family and loved ones of the player during this difficult time.

The incident occurred in the 98th minute of the heated encounter when Owono rushed out of his penalty area to clear a long ball and collided heavily with De Miguel. The Andorra goalkeeper was shown a straight red card by the referee for the reckless challenge before medical staff rushed onto the field to administer emergency treatment.

De Miguel began his professional career with Leganes B in 2015 and represented several clubs across the lower divisions of Spanish football before joining Tenerife last year. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through Spanish football, prompting widespread tributes from across the domestic leagues and football community. Officials, teammates, and supporters have united in mourning the popular forward, extending condolences to his family and the entire Tenerife organisation.

The heartbreaking announcement from the Canary Islands club has plunged Spanish football into deep mourning following the horrific events at the stadium on Monday night. Supporters and sports personalities alike have expressed profound shock at how quickly a routine second-division fixture escalated into an irreversible human tragedy on the pitch.

Medical personnel acted swiftly on the turf to provide emergency life support to the stricken player after he collapsed unconscious from the impact. The severity of the collision instantly overshadowed the sporting contest as players from both sides reacted with immediate distress and concern as medical staff worked desperately to revive him.

Hospital officials confirmed that the forward had been admitted to the intensive care unit late on Monday evening in a stable but serious condition. However, medical bulletins released in the early hours of Tuesday revealed that his neurological status had suffered a critical and irreversible decline before he ultimately passed away.

CD Tenerife highlighted the overwhelming grief gripping the local community in their official communication released at daybreak on Tuesday. The club emphasised that there were simply no adequate words of comfort available to alleviate the immense sadness felt by everyone associated with the institution.

The family of the late footballer expressed sincere gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of sympathy and solidarity received from across the wider footballing world. At the same time, relatives issued a heartfelt appeal for privacy as they attempt to come to terms with the unimaginable loss during these exceptionally difficult circumstances.

The controversial incident that triggered the tragedy unfolded deep into stoppage time as the scoreboard showed a tense two-all stalemate. With both teams pushing desperately for a late winner, a long ball over the top created a chaotic race for possession near the edge of the penalty box.

Goalkeeper Jesus Owono charged off his line in an aggressive attempt to defuse the danger, launching himself into the challenge that resulted in the catastrophic impact. Refereeing officials had no hesitation in brandishing a straight red card to dismiss the visiting custodian for the dangerous nature of the challenge before abandoning the match entirely.

Throughout his career, De Miguel built a reputation as a dedicated professional through stints at numerous clubs within the Spanish league pyramid. His journey through the lower tiers of domestic football demonstrated his resilience and passion for the game before securing his move to Tenerife ahead of the previous campaign.

Teammates, coaching staff, and administrators within the Tenerife setup remain utterly inconsolable as tributes continue to flood in from clubs across the country. The sporting fraternity has rallied together to offer condolences, underscoring the deep sense of unity that prevails within Spanish football during moments of profound national grief.

Authorities and club officials are expected to finalise arrangements for official tributes and moments of silence across upcoming fixtures in domestic competitions. Meanwhile, the footballing community continues to process the devastating loss of a dedicated athlete whose life was tragically cut short while pursuing his passion on the field.
