The club announced the tragic news on Tuesday morning, confirming that the player passed away at 08:00 local time at the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Senora de Candelaria. Medical updates issued earlier in the day had indicated a sharp neurological deterioration after he was rushed to intensive care directly from the pitch.

CD Tenerife released an emotional statement expressing profound grief over the sudden loss of their striker. The club said they were heartbroken and unable to believe the tragedy, offering full support to the grieving family and loved ones of the player during this difficult time.

The incident occurred in the 98th minute of the heated encounter when Owono rushed out of his penalty area to clear a long ball and collided heavily with De Miguel. The Andorra goalkeeper was shown a straight red card by the referee for the reckless challenge before medical staff rushed onto the field to administer emergency treatment.

De Miguel began his professional career with Leganes B in 2015 and represented several clubs across the lower divisions of Spanish football before joining Tenerife last year. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through Spanish football, prompting widespread tributes from across the domestic leagues and football community. Officials, teammates, and supporters have united in mourning the popular forward, extending condolences to his family and the entire Tenerife organisation.

The heartbreaking announcement from the Canary Islands club has plunged Spanish football into deep mourning following the horrific events at the stadium on Monday night. Supporters and sports personalities alike have expressed profound shock at how quickly a routine second-division fixture escalated into an irreversible human tragedy on the pitch.

Medical personnel acted swiftly on the turf to provide emergency life support to the stricken player after he collapsed unconscious from the impact. The severity of the collision instantly overshadowed the sporting contest as players from both sides reacted with immediate distress and concern as medical staff worked desperately to revive him.

Hospital officials confirmed that the forward had been admitted to the intensive care unit late on Monday evening in a stable but serious condition. However, medical bulletins released in the early hours of Tuesday revealed that his neurological status had suffered a critical and irreversible decline before he ultimately passed away.

CD Tenerife highlighted the overwhelming grief gripping the local community in their official communication released at daybreak on Tuesday. The club emphasised that there were simply no adequate words of comfort available to alleviate the immense sadness felt by everyone associated with the institution.

The family of the late footballer expressed sincere gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of sympathy and solidarity received from across the wider footballing world. At the same time, relatives issued a heartfelt appeal for privacy as they attempt to come to terms with the unimaginable loss during these exceptionally difficult circumstances.

The controversial incident that triggered the tragedy unfolded deep into stoppage time as the scoreboard showed a tense two-all stalemate. With both teams pushing desperately for a late winner, a long ball over the top created a chaotic race for possession near the edge of the penalty box.

Goalkeeper Jesus Owono charged off his line in an aggressive attempt to defuse the danger, launching himself into the challenge that resulted in the catastrophic impact. Refereeing officials had no hesitation in brandishing a straight red card to dismiss the visiting custodian for the dangerous nature of the challenge before abandoning the match entirely.

Throughout his career, De Miguel built a reputation as a dedicated professional through stints at numerous clubs within the Spanish league pyramid. His journey through the lower tiers of domestic football demonstrated his resilience and passion for the game before securing his move to Tenerife ahead of the previous campaign.

Teammates, coaching staff, and administrators within the Tenerife setup remain utterly inconsolable as tributes continue to flood in from clubs across the country. The sporting fraternity has rallied together to offer condolences, underscoring the deep sense of unity that prevails within Spanish football during moments of profound national grief.

Authorities and club officials are expected to finalise arrangements for official tributes and moments of silence across upcoming fixtures in domestic competitions. Meanwhile, the footballing community continues to process the devastating loss of a dedicated athlete whose life was tragically cut short while pursuing his passion on the field.

The Chicago Bears, the franchise where Ditka spent significant portions of his storied career, are paying tribute during their Week 5 clash against the Green Bay Packers. The team has introduced a special helmet decal featuring the number 89, the jersey number Ditka wore during his playing days.

The Green Bay Packers have joined in the tributes, holding a moment of silence at Lambeau Field before Sunday's game. Despite the historic and fierce rivalry between the two teams, the Packers acknowledged the profound impact Ditka had on the sport and the intensity of their storied matchup.

In a formal statement, the Packers described Ditka as one of the fiercest competitors in NFL history. They noted that he helped define the tradition of the Packers-Bears rivalry, embodying the toughness and passion that have made the fixture a cornerstone of professional football.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson reflected on the significance of Ditka's passing during a press conference on Friday. Johnson described the late icon as the gold standard for the organisation, noting that he feels humbled to occupy the same chair that Ditka once held.

To ensure the current squad understood the weight of the moment, Johnson reportedly played a tribute video for the team on Saturday. The footage highlighted Ditka's lasting impact on the franchise and his role in shaping the identity of the Chicago Bears.

Ditka's career with the Bears began in 1961 when the franchise selected him with the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft. He quickly made history during his rookie season by becoming the first tight end in the league to surpass 1,000 receiving yards.

Over a 12-season playing career, Ditka spent six years in Chicago before moving on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. His performance as a tight end was so impactful that he became the first at his position to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Following his retirement as a player, Ditka returned to the Bears as head coach in 1982. He led the team for 11 seasons, a tenure highlighted by the historic 1985 campaign, where the Bears achieved a 15-1 regular-season record and secured their only Super Bowl title.

Throughout his coaching career, which included stints with the Bears and the New Orleans Saints, Ditka compiled a record of 121-95. He also led his teams to a 6-6 record in the playoffs and earned the NFL Coach of the Year award twice, in 1985 and 1988.

The New Orleans Saints, whom Ditka coached for three seasons, also held a moment of silence to honour his memory. Fans and colleagues across the league have shared their condolences, remembering the man known as 'Iron Mike' for his stoic demeanour and larger-than-life personality.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released a statement praising his leadership and toughness. The organisation noted that his legacy as a player, coach, and icon of the game will endure for generations to come within the professional football community.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell also paid tribute to the legend after learning of his passing during a media session. Campbell shared personal reflections on meeting Ditka, joining the chorus of voices across the NFL who have been touched by his career.

The tributes serve as a reminder of the deep connections within the NFL, even among the most intense rivals. As the Bears and Packers met at Lambeau Field, the focus remained on celebrating the life of a man who helped define an era of the sport.

The passing of Ditka marks the end of a significant chapter in NFL history. His influence on the tight end position and his success on the sidelines remain central to the narrative of the Chicago Bears and the broader league landscape.

Ditka's ties with the Chicago franchise spanned 65 years, beginning with his draft selection in 1961. His transition from a dominant player to a championship-winning coach cemented his status as a central figure in the history of the Bears organisation.

The Bears' decision to wear the No. 89 decal was unveiled on Sunday morning ahead of the kickoff at Lambeau Field. The gesture serves as a visible reminder of the number he wore during his six-year playing tenure in Chicago.

The rivalry between the Bears and the Packers is the oldest in professional football. The Packers' decision to honour an opponent's legend highlights the respect Ditka commanded throughout the league, even from those he competed against on the field.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and former players like Brett Favre were among those who paid public tribute to Ditka. Their comments reflected a widespread recognition of his toughness and the lasting impact he left on the game of football.

As the NFL continues its season, the memory of Mike Ditka remains a focal point for many teams. His contributions to the game, both as a player and a leader, ensure that his influence will continue to be felt for many years to come.
