Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the seventh minute at Camp Nou before Raphinha dominated the second half with a brace. The Spanish giants displayed superior clinical ability in the final third during a match played under heavy rainfall.

The pre-match routine was altered as the Champions League anthem was omitted as a mark of respect following the tragic death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel. The Spanish second-division player passed away earlier on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest after an on-pitch collision.

Reflecting on the emotional atmosphere, Raphinha dedicated the victory to the supporters while expressing deep condolences to the family of Jesus. The Brazilian forward emphasised the shock felt throughout the football community regarding the sudden tragedy.

Aston Villa suffered an unideal start when defensive pressure from the hosts forced a costly error inside the penalty area. Joao Gomes played a loose pass directly to Yamal, allowing the teenager to convert past visiting goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Despite falling behind early, Unai Emery's side attempted a spirited response during a competitive first half. Matty Cash unleashed a powerful drive that deflected narrowly wide of the target, while goalkeeper Joan Garcia rushed off his line to thwart Nicolas Jackson.

Barcelona maintained intense territorial pressure, causing recurring difficulties for the visitors attempting to play out from the defensive third. Suzuki produced a notable save to deny Anthony Gordon as the match developed into an entertaining, end-to-end contest.

The home side doubled their advantage shortly after the interval through Raphinha. Fermin Lopez provided the build-up play, allowing the Brazilian attacker to utilise quick footwork before placing a low shot into the bottom corner.

Joao Cancelo orchestrated the third goal with a sublime cross delivered using the outside of his boot. Raphinha reacted quickest inside the area to finish from close range, securing his nineteenth goal of the campaign across all competitions.

The victory also marked a significant defensive milestone for the Catalan club, who secured their first Champions League clean sheet in nineteen matches. Barcelona controlled the closing stages with further attempts from Yamal and Cancelo.

The result leaves Aston Villa with their first defeat of the European campaign after a promising opening phase. Unai Emery's squad will need to regroup ahead of their upcoming fixtures in the tournament structure.

Meanwhile, other Tuesday fixtures in the Champions League produced notable results for continental heavyweights. Bayern Munich secured an away victory against Atletico Madrid, while Paris Saint-Germain recorded a resounding win over Villarreal.

The result brings Jose Mourinho's side to within three points of the La Liga table leaders, while halting Barcelona's impressive momentum under head coach Hansi Flick in what proved to be a pulsating encounter in Catalonia.

Mbappe proved to be the difference maker by netting twice during the contest, culminating in an 87th-minute winner that sent the visiting bench and travelling supporters into wild celebrations inside the stadium.

The decisive moment arrived late in the game when midfielder Eduardo Camavinga delivered a precise cutback following some sublime individual skill from England international Jude Bellingham in the build-up.

Mbappe was on hand to apply the finish, slotting past the goalkeeper to secure a famous triumph that marks Real Madrid's first victory away at their great rivals in Barcelona for three years.

The visitors had initially broken the deadlock in the 41st minute through a somewhat fortuitous opening goal when Barcelona defender Gerard Martin inadvertently slammed a clearance straight off Mbappe and into the net.

That bizarre breakthrough came at the end of a fine team move by Real Madrid, who showed a willingness to go toe-to-toe with their favoured hosts right from the opening whistle of the fixture.

Barcelona, who entered the match on the back of strong domestic form, managed to respond after the interval when Brazilian forward Raphinha drew the defending champions level in the 61st minute.

Pedri engineered the opening with a clever reverse pass into the path of Raphinha, whose instinctive snapshot beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin despite the Ukrainian getting a hand to the effort.

Buoyed by the equaliser, the hosts pressed forward in search of a second goal, with young winger Lamine Yamal coming close when he skipped past several challenges before clipping a shot narrowly wide.

Lunin also had to be at his best to keep Real Madrid level, producing a magnificent save to claw away a powerful header from Martin following a corner kick during a sustained period of Barcelona pressure.

Despite the home side controlling large spells of the second half, Real Madrid maintained their defensive organization and remained a threat on the counter-attack throughout the high-octane encounter.

Earlier in the first half, both sides had traded attacking opportunities in an end-to-end spectacle watched by a global audience, with Arda Guler and Raphinha both testing the respective goalkeepers.

Mbappe had also threatened earlier in the half with an acrobatic scissor-kick that flew over the crossbar following a surging team move initiated by a strong defensive tackle from Bellingham.

A major flashpoint occurred shortly before the hour mark when defender Joao Cancelo caught Yan Diomande with his studs on the calf, though no retrospective or on-field punishment was issued.

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho expressed his satisfaction with the performance and the final outcome, praising the courage and discipline shown by his players against a formidable opponent.

The Portuguese manager told reporters after the match that his squad executed their game plan effectively under intense pressure, maintaining their composure even after Barcelona had equalised in the second half.

Mourinho also highlighted the competitive nature of the fixture, emphasizing the quality displayed by both teams in what he described as a high-level match fitting of the historic rivalry.

For Barcelona, the defeat represents a significant setback after a strong start to the campaign that had featured a long winning streak in domestic competition before a recent stumble in Europe.

Head coach Hansi Flick admitted his side lacked their usual freshness during the first half, though he took some encouragement from an improved display after the interval once they had equalised.

Flick noted that defeats are an inevitable part of the football season and stressed the importance of a strong reaction as his team looks to maintain their position at the summit of the standings.

Mbappe, reflecting on his decisive contribution, emphasized the collective effort required to secure such a vital result away from home in one of world football's most demanding fixtures.

The forward told club media that the victory sends an important message regarding their championship ambitions, though he insisted that the title race remains wide open with a long way left to play.

Real Madrid will now look to build upon the confidence gained from this statement win as they navigate a busy schedule of domestic and European fixtures in the coming weeks and months.
