The left-handed opening batsman concluded England's matches in Pakistan with a career-best score of 167 against Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, providing a timely reminder of his prowess in the 50-over format ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.

Duckett endured a challenging Test tour of Australia last winter, where he averaged 20.2 across 10 innings as England suffered a 4-1 series defeat. Compounding a difficult period on the field, his tour also attracted unwanted attention following a controversial mid-tour break to Noosa.

However, the opener boasts a formidable record in one-day internationals against Australia, accumulating 470 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 78.33. That run includes memorable centuries at Bristol in 2024 and at the ICC Champions Trophy in Lahore last year.

Reflecting on the transition between formats, Duckett told the Press Association that the white-ball game presents an entirely different challenge. He emphasized that he plans to take the confidence gained from his recent centuries directly into the upcoming series in Australia.

England's tri-series campaign in Pakistan saw them finish at the bottom of the standings following three consecutive defeats. Nevertheless, their emphatic victory over Sri Lanka on Thursday showcased the explosive potential of their batting lineup, spearheaded by Duckett's magnificent knock.

While his Test form has fluctuated over the past year, Duckett has remained one of England's most reliable performers in the 50-over format throughout 2026, maintaining a stellar average of 56.7. His ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed has solidified his position at the top of the order.

The absence of Jacob Bethell, who missed the backend of the English summer and the Pakistan tri-series due to a knee injury, opened the door for a new opening combination. Duckett has quickly formed a productive partnership with Tom Banton at the top of the order.

Banton has enjoyed a remarkable run of form since his recall to the ODI side, registering five scores of fifty or more in his last six innings, including his maiden international hundred last month. Together, Duckett and Banton have averaged 71 runs per partnership.

The emergence of this strong opening pair presents England's selectors and coaching staff with a welcome selection dilemma, particularly with Bethell nearing a return to full fitness ahead of the Australian tour. Duckett acknowledged the depth and quality currently available within the squad.

Former England fast bowler Mark Wood praised Duckett's resilience and determination in responding to pressure and competition for places. Wood noted that international careers inevitably involve peaks and troughs, but commended Duckett's character in securing his place in the side.

Sky Sports cricket analyst Nasser Hussain also highlighted the importance of Duckett's resurgence, describing him as a high-class player whose return to form is vital for England's demanding schedule over the coming year. Hussain underlined the player's enduring value to the team's white-ball setup.

England's upcoming tour of Australia is scheduled to begin with a three-match ODI series, starting in Perth on November 13. The fixtures will be followed by a series of Twenty20 internationals as England continue their preparations for future global tournaments.

Meanwhile, the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan concludes with the final match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. England's squad will soon turn their full attention toward the long-haul flight to Australia and the challenges awaiting them in Perth.
