The North London club produced a controlled and dominant display in enemy territory, restricting their hosts while asserting their own authority on the contest. It was only the second time Tottenham have managed back-to-back league victories in 42 attempts, highlighting the historic inconsistency that has plagued them.

The breakthrough arrived when Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders accidentally punched an opening cross into his own net under pressure. French forward Mathys Tel then added a decisive second goal with a brilliant low finish following a powerful driving run.

Chelsea's afternoon deteriorated further when playmaker Cole Palmer was shown a red card after receiving two yellow tokens of caution from the referee. The numerical disadvantage made it virtually impossible for the home side to mount a meaningful comeback in the fixture.

The triumph at Stamford Bridge was particularly historic for the travelling supporters, representing just a second league success away at Chelsea in 36 years. It also marked Tottenham's first clean sheet at the venue since 1986, compounding a miserable afternoon for the hosts.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi sprinted onto the pitch at the final whistle to celebrate with the jubilant away supporters. His coaching staff and substitutes quickly followed, rushing to embrace the players in the corner of the stadium.

The Italian coach revealed after the match that a candid team meeting earlier in the month had completely transformed the dressing room atmosphere. Players and staff spoke honestly about their struggles, removing figurative masks to address the fragile confidence within the group.

That clear-the-air discussion preceded an upturn in form that included a resilient draw against Manchester United and a home win over Coventry City. De Zerbi praised the improved relationships and altered spirit within his squad following weeks of intense suffering.

Midfielder James Maddison delivered another standout performance before being forced off in the second half with a suspected groin problem. The playmaker has recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff that kept him sidelined for the majority of the previous campaign.

De Zerbi admitted he is hoping the injury setback is not serious, describing Maddison as a special player who is vital to his tactical plans. The midfielder's creativity and industry in the centre of the pitch have added much-needed control and mischief to Tottenham's midfield.

Summer signing Mathys Tel also earned high praise from pundits and his manager after enduring a difficult settling-in period following his arrival from Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old winger utilised his pace and direct running to terrorize the opposition defence throughout the afternoon.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown lauded Tottenham's tactical discipline and the influence of their key personnel in a notoriously difficult away fixture. Keown specifically highlighted the performances of Tel on the left flank and Mohammed Kudus on the right wing.

Tottenham controlled nearly 68 percent of possession during the match, a remarkable statistic for a side that has struggled near the foot of the table. It was the highest possession share the club has recorded in a single league fixture since April 2025.

The club invested heavily during the summer transfer window, backing De Zerbi with more than 300 million pounds in new signings. Centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, midfielder Matheus Fernandes, and midfielder Sandro Tonali all featured prominently and impressed their manager.

De Zerbi singled out Tonali for playing his best game in a Tottenham shirt since joining from Newcastle United. Van Hecke and Fernandes also earned glowing reviews for their composure and defensive resilience under sustained pressure.

Despite the euphoria of the derby victory, Tottenham's attacking department remains a work in progress with only eight goals scored in their opening eight league fixtures. Manchester City loanee Omar Marmoush labored upfront, while substitute Dominic Solanke has struggled to find consistent form.

Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Richarlison remains frozen out of the first-team picture, training with the reserves after missing out on the Premier League squad submission. The club's attacking frailties highlight the ongoing rebuilding task facing the coaching staff.

The recent upturn follows a difficult period that saw De Zerbi appointed in March 2026 with the club hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone. He arrived as the third manager of a turbulent campaign, ultimately steering them to safety before overseeing an extensive squad overhaul.

During the international break, the squad enjoyed a warm-weather training camp in Marbella, where heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua visited the players. That trip appears to have fostered greater unity within a group that previously lacked confidence.

Tottenham are now unbeaten in their last three league outings as they prepare for the forthcoming fixtures of the domestic calendar. De Zerbi's revolution is still in its infancy, but Saturday's statement win suggests a brighter future may finally be arriving in North London.

The 34-year-old Argentina international was involved in a heavy collision during the second half of the match. He clashed heads with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in an accidental incident that immediately brought a halt to proceedings on the pitch.

Medical staff rushed to the assistance of the experienced custodian, who required eight minutes of on-pitch treatment. The seriousness of the situation became apparent as medical personnel prepared a stretcher to safely remove him from the playing surface.

Following the prolonged medical attention, Martinez was taken directly to hospital for further assessment and emergency treatment. Subsequent scans confirmed the fracture, prompting the medical team to schedule a surgical procedure to repair the damage.

Chelsea later confirmed through an official statement that the operation had been entirely successful. The goalkeeper himself took to social media on Sunday to reassure supporters, sharing a photograph of himself wearing a hospital gown.

Addressing his followers online, Martinez expressed gratitude for the numerous messages of support he received from fans across the footballing world. He confirmed that the surgical intervention went according to plan and expressed his delight with the team's result.

The veteran shot-stopper emphasised that the collective success of the squad remained his primary focus despite his personal setback. He noted that keeping a clean sheet and securing the three points were the most important takeaways from the fixture.

Looking ahead to his recovery, Martinez struck an optimistic tone regarding his eventual return to action. He stated that he expects to be back available for selection within a matter of a few weeks following his rehabilitation period.

The summer signing joined Chelsea ahead of the current campaign following six successful seasons with Aston Villa. His arrival added considerable experience to the Stamford Bridge dressing room, establishing him as a key figure in the squad.

The injury paves the way for young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders to step into the side for the immediate future. Penders made his Premier League debut as a substitute after replacing the stricken Martinez during Saturday's encounter.

The 21-year-old previously signed for the London club from Belgian outfit Genk for a fee of seventeen million pounds in 2024. Having featured in domestic cup fixtures, he is now poised for a significant run of matches in the starting line-up.

Penders looks set to guard the net for Chelsea's next three fixtures across different competitions. The upcoming schedule includes high-profile Premier League clashes against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Sandwiched between those crucial league fixtures is a demanding Carabao Cup tie away against Liverpool. These matches will provide a severe test of readiness for the young Belgian goalkeeper on the domestic and national stage.

Chelsea manager expressed complete confidence in the abilities of the young backup goalkeeper following his assured display at Everton. He highlighted the player's bravery and personality as vital attributes for handling the pressure of top-flight football.

The coaching staff believes that the depth of the squad is one of their greatest strengths this season. Every member of the team is encouraged to stay prepared so they can perform reliably whenever called upon by the manager.

Manager Alonso noted that the youngster did well when he came on and praised his composure under unexpected pressure. The technical team expressed full trust in his capabilities as he prepares for an extended run in the team.

Alonso emphasised that the club values squad harmony and ensures all players feel important to the collective cause. Providing moments for every squad member to shine when called upon remains a core philosophy for the coaching staff.

The emphasis on collective responsibility ensures that squad rotation and unexpected absences can be managed effectively. Maintaining morale across the entire playing roster remains a priority as the fixtures come thick and fast.

The victory against Everton leaves Chelsea in a strong position within the domestic standings as the autumn schedule intensifies. Their defensive solidity was once again on display before the unfortunate incident involving their number one goalkeeper.

As Martinez begins his recuperation, the medical and coaching departments will monitor his progress closely. The club hopes his recovery will be straightforward, allowing him to resume training without any complications in the near future.
