The league, which had been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since September, will now transition to an orderly wind-down of its business. Attorney Matthew Williams informed the court that the organization is no longer proceeding with the "LIV 2.0" project, with the liquidation of remaining assets expected to commence on Monday.

The decision followed the withdrawal of BC Partners Credit, which had previously pledged up to $300 million to support the league's restructuring. The investment firm indicated that it could not reach mutually acceptable terms with the various stakeholders involved, citing a lack of sufficient player interest in the proposed new format.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil described the league's existence as "the round of a lifetime" in a statement following the hearing. He highlighted the circuit's efforts to engage younger audiences and build a global platform for individual and team competitions across five continents since its inception in 2021.

The league's financial future had been in jeopardy since April, when Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF)—which had invested an estimated $5 billion into the project—announced it would cease funding. Despite attempts to secure an independent future, the departure of high-profile players, including Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, proved insurmountable.

Court documents revealed that LIV Golf faces between $500 million and $1 billion in estimated liabilities to roughly 1,000 creditors. A formal disclosure statement and a comprehensive wind-down plan are scheduled to be filed with the court by 9 November, as the league remains open to any final value-maximizing alternatives.

The first round was significantly disrupted by severe weather, with lightning and thunderstorms forcing a suspension of play lasting nearly five hours. As a result, the opening round could not be completed on Thursday, with 12 players yet to tee off.

Rory McIlroy, a major contender in the field, finished his opening round at two-under-par 70. The Northern Irishman sits four shots off the pace set by Nørgaard as he continues his pursuit of the Race to Dubai title.

Reflecting on his performance after the delay, McIlroy noted that his round was acceptable. He acknowledged that while he struck the ball well throughout the day, he felt he left several scoring opportunities on the greens.

Eugenio Chacarra, Thomas Detry, and Tom McKibbin are currently tied for second place at five-under-par 67. Chacarra, who is well-positioned in the Race to Dubai standings, strengthened his prospects with a strong opening effort.

Adrian Meronk also enjoyed a productive start before the weather interruption. The Polish golfer recorded four birdies in his first five holes to reach four-under-par, joining a group of six players tied at that score.

Patrick Reed, the current leader of the Race to Dubai rankings, faced a difficult start to his campaign. Reed was two-over-par through four holes when the suspension of play was called, leaving him with work to do when he resumes.

The tournament features a highly competitive field, with four events remaining in the season-long Race to Dubai. The standings remain tight, with Reed, Chacarra, and McIlroy all vying for the top position as the championship progresses.

Justin Rose provided a lighthearted moment during the lengthy weather delay. The English golfer posted a video online showing himself practicing chip shots toward a bed in his hotel room before eventually completing his round at even-par 72.

A historic milestone was reached at the Delhi Golf Club as Subash Tamang became the first golfer from Nepal to compete on the DP World Tour. His participation marked Nepal as the 120th nation represented in the tour's history.

Tamang concluded his opening round at eight-over-par. The inclusion of players from emerging golfing nations continues to be a point of interest for the DP World Tour as it expands its global reach and tournament schedule.

Tournament organizers now face the challenge of completing the delayed first round on Friday morning. The schedule for the remainder of the event will depend on the ability of the field to finish the opening round promptly.

The Delhi Golf Club layout has proven challenging for the field, particularly with the added pressure of the weather conditions. Players will need to maintain focus as they look to catch up on the missed time during the second day of play.

As the tournament progresses, the focus will shift back to the Race to Dubai implications. With the standings so close, every stroke during the remaining rounds will carry significant weight for the top contenders in the field.

The DP World India Championship serves as a critical stop in the season, attracting top international talent. The presence of stars like McIlroy and Reed highlights the importance of the event in the final stretch of the tour.

Friday's play is expected to be busy as officials work to bring the tournament back on schedule. Competitors will be eager to find their rhythm early in the morning to avoid further complications from potential weather shifts.

The performance of Nørgaard has set a high bar for the rest of the field. His ability to navigate the course effectively despite the interruptions will be tested as other players look to close the gap in the coming days.

With 12 players yet to start and many others having only completed a portion of their rounds, the leaderboard remains fluid. The true shape of the competition will likely emerge once the first round is officially concluded on Friday.

The DP World India Championship continues to be a key fixture on the calendar, offering substantial ranking points and prize money. The outcome in New Delhi will play a vital role in determining the final standings for the season.

Spectators and officials will be monitoring the weather closely as the tournament resumes. The goal remains to complete the full 72-hole event despite the significant scheduling hurdles encountered on the opening day.
