The dual Grade 1 winner headlines a competitive Wednesday jumps card in South Wales as he seeks to rediscover his form under new management.

The 2023 Kauto Star Novices' Chase winner Il Est Francais is set to make his debut for the Dan Skelton stable at Ffos Las this afternoon. The high-profile chaser is the headline act in a fascinating Faucets Handicap Chase, marking a significant change in his career trajectory.

Il Est Francais arrives at the South Wales track with a point to prove after being pulled up on each of his last three starts. The move to the Skelton yard is intended to spark a return to the form that saw him establish himself as a top-level performer.

The task for the newcomer is substantial as he must concede weight to all of his rivals in the feature race. Among his primary challengers is the Jonjo and AJ O'Neill-trained Crebilly, who enters the contest with a notable fitness advantage.

Crebilly demonstrated his current well-being by doubling his tally over fences during his last outing at Worcester in September. His connections will be looking to capitalise on that recent success against a field of high-quality opposition.

Other contenders in the feature race include Saint Segal, who enjoyed a productive campaign last year with two victories. Having competed in top-level events during the spring, he is expected to be competitive now that he is dropping into handicap company.

The race also features Torneo, Down Memory Lane, and Southoftheborder, all of whom are considered strong each-way prospects. The depth of the field ensures a stern test for Il Est Francais on his first start for his new team.

Elsewhere on the card, the Listed Adept GRP Cabinets Novices' Chase has attracted a high-class field of four runners. Paul Nicholls' Tutti Quanti, a six-year-old rated 151 over hurdles, is set to make his highly anticipated debut over fences.

Tutti Quanti previously secured a wide-margin victory in the William Hill Hurdle in February. Under the guidance of jockey Sam Twiston-Davies, he is widely viewed as a natural chaser and could prove to be a class apart in this discipline.

Captain Teague also makes his first appearance for the Dan Skelton stable after switching from the Paul Nicholls yard. A former Grade 1 winner over hurdles, he aims to get back on track after a setback at Newbury previously interrupted his chasing career.

George's Lad and Tamarind Bay complete the quartet for the Adept GRP Cabinets Novices' Chase. George's Lad impressed with a dominant victory at Haydock in April, while the experienced Tamarind Bay has won three of his five starts over fences.

The JCP Solicitors Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at 2:20pm features a strong line-up including Sinnatra and Pourquoi Pas Papa. Sinnatra, trained by Dan Skelton, showed consistent improvement over hurdles and now makes his handicap debut over fences.

Pourquoi Pas Papa represents a significant threat for the Paul Nicholls and Sam Twiston-Davies partnership. As a four-year-old, he benefits from a substantial weight allowance and arrives following a placed effort at the Aintree festival.

Light Fandango also features in the 2:20pm contest, seeking a third consecutive victory. Having won handicap hurdles at Doncaster and Musselburgh, he remains a dangerous opponent provided he can maintain his jumping accuracy.

The remainder of the field for the JCP Solicitors Novices' Limited Handicap Chase is rounded out by Wandering Ego and Desertmore News. The race is expected to be a closely contested affair given the quality of the participants.

The RWK Goodman Veterans' Handicap Chase at 2:55pm sees Nocte Volatus, Ben Solo, and Iron Bridge compete. Iron Bridge will be looking to maintain his momentum after securing a victory at Haydock during his last appearance in April.

In the Adept GRP Cabinets Native River Handicap Chase at 4:05pm, King Roly seeks another win for trainer Mickey Bowen. He is fresh from a victory at Worcester last week where he defeated five rivals.

King Roly faces stiff competition from Viroflay, who enters the race with an official mark of 144. Viroflay arrives in fine form following an emphatic victory at Newton Abbot where he won by an enormous margin.

The afternoon concludes with the Enigma Flooring Handicap Chase at 5:13pm. Market interest is expected to centre on Yes Day and Jaccours, who are considered the primary contenders for the final race of the day.

The Ffos Las meeting provides a significant opportunity for several horses to prove their credentials in the early stages of the National Hunt season. Trainers and owners will be monitoring performances closely as the winter campaign intensifies.

Racing fans can follow the latest updates and results from the track throughout the day. The event continues to be a key fixture in the calendar for those tracking the progress of novice chasers and veteran performers alike.

The 20-year-old prodigy is poised to become the youngest champion flat jockey in over a century.

Billy Loughnane is set to be officially crowned Flat racing's champion jockey on Saturday during the prestigious Champions Day meeting at Ascot. At just 20 years of age, the talented rider will become the youngest person to claim the prestigious title in more than a century.

The young Irishman has enjoyed an extraordinary rise through the ranks of professional horse racing in a remarkably short space of time. Just four years ago, Loughnane had never even ridden in a professional race before beginning his journey as an apprentice.

Reflecting on his rapid ascent to the pinnacle of the sport, Loughnane admitted that the achievement still feels surreal. He noted that if someone had predicted this success when he drove up to Newcastle for his first ride in October 2022, he would have doubted their sanity.

The champion-elect currently holds a commanding lead of 29 winners over his nearest challenger, Oisin Murphy, having accumulated 222 victories overall. This substantial winning margin allowed Loughnane to finally relax and enjoy the closing stages of a fiercely contested campaign.

Loughnane confessed that he felt intense pressure not to let the title slip away until very recently. However, once Murphy acknowledged he could no longer bridge the gap and effectively conceded defeat, the youngster was able to savour his impending triumph.

Despite securing the championship crown, the ambitious rider has made it clear that his goals for the season extend far beyond this weekend's trophy presentation. Loughnane is now actively targeting historic milestones previously set by legends of the sport.

The primary target in the rider's sights is Sir Gordon Richards' long-standing 1947 Flat racing record of 269 winners in a single calendar year. Loughnane intends to evaluate his physical and professional standing through November before making a definitive push in December.

Should the momentum continue, the young star might also challenge the remarkable jumps record held by his childhood idol, Sir AP McCoy, who managed 289 winners. Loughnane has confirmed he will give that ambitious pursuit his absolute best effort until the winter.

A pivotal component of the jockey's breakthrough year has been his highly successful professional partnership with trainer George Boughey. Together, the pair have secured major victories at the highest level of British and international thoroughbred horse racing.

Among the highlights of their campaign was a memorable triumph aboard Bow Echo in the prestigious 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Loughnane later described the special feeling of guiding the talented horse to Grade 1 glory as the ultimate career highlight.

The duo also combined to win the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood with Bow Echo, prompting an electric reception from racegoers. Loughnane expressed genuine delight at being able to showcase the exceptional horse to the public during what proved to be its final competitive race.

Behind the jockey's success lies a remarkable level of meticulous preparation and professional dedication rarely seen at such a tender age. Loughnane maintains a personal WhatsApp group dedicated entirely to cataloguing detailed notes on every single horse he rides.

Having already sat on more than 1,000 horses throughout the current calendar year, the young professional considers this system essential. He believes that maintaining such rigorous records is the only way to properly manage the immense workload required of a modern jockey.

Raised in Worcestershire within a dedicated racing environment, Loughnane is the son of respected professional horse racing trainer Mark Loughnane. This lifelong immersion in the sport clearly provided a strong foundation for his rapid development within competitive equestrian circles.

When British sports fans first caught a glimpse of the teenager in January 2023, he was already making headlines. Riding out of his family's yard, he quickly racked up more than 20 winners in a matter of weeks to momentarily top the standings.

At that early stage of his career, while harbouring ambitions of becoming the champion apprentice, reaching the senior summit felt distant. Back then, wise observers and the rider himself insisted that expectations surrounding his early promise needed careful management.

The history of the Flat racing championship illustrates the high level of competition Loughnane has successfully navigated this season. Recent years have seen established international stars such as Oisin Murphy, William Buick, Silvestre de Sousa, and Jim Crowley claim the coveted crown.

Murphy claimed the title in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025, demonstrating the sustained excellence required to dominate the weighing room. Meanwhile, Norwegian rider William Buick secured back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023 following successes by Brazilian rider Silvestre de Sousa.

As the Flat racing season reaches its emotional climax at Ascot, preparations for post-racing celebrations are already well underway. Showing typical youthful detachment from event planning, Loughnane revealed that his mother has taken complete charge of organising the evening's festivities.

Surrounded by family, lifelong friends, his girlfriend, and numerous industry sponsors who supported him from his pony-racing days, the newly crowned champion will mark his historic achievement. With the trophy secured and legendary records in his sights, Billy the Kid's remarkable story is only just beginning.

Trainer Willie Mullins has been fined and his horse Final Demand disqualified after testing positive for a prohibited substance at the Cheltenham Festival.

Leading horse racing trainer Willie Mullins has been fined £1,100 by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) following a doping violation. His horse, Final Demand, has been disqualified from the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase held at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

The disciplinary panel determined that Final Demand competed in the Grade One event on 11 March while carrying a Category B prohibited substance. The substance identified was mepivacaine, a local anaesthetic frequently utilised in the treatment of racehorses.

According to the BHA, the trainer failed to disclose the administration of the anaesthetic within the mandatory medical declaration forms submitted before the race. Consequently, the horse was stripped of its second-place finish in the competition.

Expert evidence presented to the panel indicated that a low dose of the substance entered the horse's system shortly before the testing occurred. The investigation could not definitively establish how the drug was administered given the yard's security measures.

Judicial panel chair Sarah Crowther KC stated that there was no evidence suggesting Mullins or his staff intentionally administered the substance. The BHA acknowledged that reasonable precautions were in place at the trainer's yard during the period.

The investigation into the incident also uncovered a separate regulatory failure regarding the retention of surveillance footage. It was revealed that CCTV recordings from the stables where the horse was housed had been lost or misplaced.

Racecourses are strictly required to maintain such footage as part of their operational compliance. The panel was informed that the hard drive containing the relevant video evidence had been misplaced by the venue management.

Despite the missing footage, Crowther noted that the issue should not be overstated. The horse had been relocated to a different yard when the dose was administered, and that specific footage was successfully recovered and reviewed.

As a result of the failure to retain the required CCTV records, Cheltenham Racecourse has been issued a fine of £5,000. The BHA continues to enforce strict protocols regarding stable security and medical transparency at major racing events.

The Cheltenham Festival remains one of the most prestigious fixtures in the National Hunt calendar. The Brown Advisory Novices' Chase is a key Grade One contest that attracts top-tier talent from across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Willie Mullins is widely regarded as one of the most successful trainers in the history of the sport. Based in County Carlow, Ireland, he has secured numerous victories at Cheltenham, including multiple Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle titles.

The BHA maintains a rigorous testing programme to ensure the integrity of horse racing. Prohibited substances are categorised based on their potential to affect a horse's performance or mask underlying injuries during high-stakes competition.

Mepivacaine is classified as a Category B substance under BHA rules. While it is a common therapeutic agent, its presence during a race without a valid declaration constitutes a breach of the governing body's anti-doping regulations.

The disqualification of Final Demand alters the official results of the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase. Such retrospective actions are standard procedure when a horse is found to have breached medication rules during a race day.

The BHA disciplinary panel's decision concludes the formal inquiry into the March incident. Both the trainer and the racecourse have been held accountable for their respective roles in the regulatory lapses identified by the authorities.

The integrity of the sport relies heavily on the accurate reporting of all medical treatments. Trainers are responsible for ensuring that all documentation is complete and submitted to officials well in advance of any race start time.

Cheltenham Racecourse has not issued a formal statement regarding the fine for the missing CCTV footage. The venue is expected to review its data retention policies to prevent similar administrative errors in future racing festivals.

The racing community closely monitors BHA disciplinary outcomes to maintain confidence in the sport's fairness. Transparency regarding investigations and penalties is a core component of the authority's commitment to clean competition.

Final Demand's performance in the March race had initially been viewed as a strong showing. The disqualification serves as a reminder of the strict liability placed upon trainers regarding the health and status of their equine athletes.

Looking ahead, the BHA continues to oversee the upcoming racing calendar. Trainers and venues are reminded of their obligations to uphold the highest standards of welfare and compliance to ensure the continued success of the sport.

The third day of the Welsh Racing Festival brings competitive jumps action to Chepstow on Sunday, broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing.

The jumps racing action from Chepstow continues on Sunday with a competitive seven-race card broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing. The fixture forms part of the Welsh Racing Festival, attracting quality fields across the afternoon.

The main event on the third day of the festival is the DragonBet Cefnogi Rasio Ceffylau Cymreig Handicap Hurdle. A competitive field has been assembled for this feature contest, with several intriguing contenders lining up.

Leading claims in the feature race belong to Leader Crik, trained by the stable partnership of Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies. The promising runner makes his first appearance in handicap company following an encouraging start to his career over obstacles.

Leader Crik recorded a commanding 12-length victory in a maiden hurdle at Doncaster back in February. He steps up in distance for this assignment and is considered a key player under jockey Sam Twiston-Davies.

The Twiston-Davies stable enters the weekend in strong overall form and hopes remain high for their runner. Stepping into deeper waters against seasoned rivals will provide a useful gauge of his future potential.

Another leading contender arriving on the back of a recent success is Service Minimum, representing the Skelton yard. She scored a determined victory at Newton Abbot last month to boost confidence within the camp.

That latest triumph has resulted in a six-pound rise in the weights for Service Minimum. However, she could possess further improvement as she tackles an extended trip at this track.

Matty's Getaway also commands respect in the line-up after ending the previous National Hunt season in fine style. A game victory at Haydock proved his stamina and a similar performance here would put him firmly in the mix.

Earlier on the card, the DragonBet Born In Wales Seniors' Handicap Hurdle features the in-form Haas Boy. The nine-year-old seeks a hat-trick of victories after a productive spell during the previous campaign.

Trained by Chester Williams, Haas Boy sprung back to life off a lower mark at Wincanton in March. He quickly followed up with another impressive victory at Ascot later that same month.

Haas Boy now returns to the track following a standard summer break. He enters this renewal with strong claims off an appealing hurdles mark in a high-quality field.

Ooh Betty represents the primary danger for trainer Ben Clarke and jockey Ben Jones. She captured the Grade Two Warfield Mares' Hurdle at Ascot in January before running with considerable credit at Cheltenham and Ayr.

Sunday's contest represents a welcome drop in grade for Ooh Betty. Given her proven class at a higher level, she should be heavily involved in the closing stages of the race.

Other notable names in the handicap include the consistent pair Norn Iron and Gower Prince. Glengouly also warrants a mention as he is switched back to hurdles for this assignment.

An exciting trio of mares clash in the opening DragonBet EBF Mares' National Hunt Novices' Hurdle. Princess Day, Divine Diva and Connells Cross prepare to lock horns in a fascinating test.

Princess Day showed excellent form by winning her first two bumper starts after capturing her sole point-to-point appearance. She was sent off as the 2-1 favourite when finishing second in an Aintree Grade Two contest in April.

Having finished ahead of the reopposing Divine Diva on that occasion, Princess Day looks a prospect to follow over hurdles. Her jumping ability will be closely monitored as the season progresses.

Divine Diva also boasts winning point-to-point form from March of last year. She ran a remarkable race to finish third in Listed company at Cheltenham in November before struggling in the testing conditions at Aintree.

That disappointment at Aintree can easily be forgiven and she remains a useful prospect for her connections. A clean round of jumping could see her mount a significant challenge.

Connells Cross rounds out the intriguing trio after scoring on two of her three bumper starts for Jennie Candlish. She makes her eagerly anticipated hurdling and stable debut here for Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls.

A tongue-tie is fitted to Connells Cross for her first start under these new conditions. Her stable believes she could prove to be above average as she transitions to jumping obstacles.

Further down the Sunday card, the Skeltons send out Old Coast Road as he bids to maintain a perfect record and go two-for-two. Harbour Light also faces 12 rivals in a progressive heat earlier in the afternoon.

Live coverage of the seven-race card at Chepstow begins at 1.27pm on Sunday afternoon. Racing enthusiasts can follow all the action, interviews and features across Sky Sports Racing platforms.

Aidan O'Brien's colt secured a narrow win at Newmarket, sparking hopes of a historic Triple Crown campaign next season.

Darkness Falls has emerged as a serious contender for the Triple Crown after a narrow victory in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The colt, ridden by Ryan Moore, edged out the odds-on favourite Desert Castle to claim the prestigious prize.

The win marks a significant milestone for trainer Aidan O'Brien, who is now looking toward a potential attempt at the Triple Crown next season. No horse has achieved this feat since Nijinsky in 1970, a challenge that remains one of the most elusive in racing.

Darkness Falls demonstrated impressive versatility by dropping back to seven furlongs for the Dewhurst Stakes. This followed a notable Group One success over nine furlongs at Leopardstown just last month, proving the horse possesses both the speed and stamina required for such a campaign.

Reflecting on the performance, Aidan O'Brien expressed his admiration for the colt's ability to adapt. He noted that it was a significant challenge to bring the horse back in distance, but his class allowed him to overcome the task.

O'Brien stated, "When they have as much class as he has, they can do anything, and the Triple Crown is the dream. His dad was an incredible horse who went very close. This lad is very like him, but quicker."

The trainer's reference to the horse's sire, Camelot, highlights the ambition behind the project. Camelot famously won the 2,000 Guineas and the Derby in 2012 before narrowly missing out on the Triple Crown in the St Leger.

MV Magnier of the Coolmore operation confirmed that the Triple Crown will be a primary target for next season. He emphasized that the horse's ability to win at seven furlongs provides the necessary pace for the 2,000 Guineas, the first leg of the series.

Following the victory, bookmakers have reacted by installing Darkness Falls as the favourite for both the 2,000 Guineas and the Derby. Odds for a potential Triple Crown success are currently quoted between 12-1 and 25-1.

The Dewhurst success was part of a productive day for O'Brien, who also saddled Drumbeat to win the earlier Zetland Stakes. These results have provided a vital boost to his ongoing battle for the trainers' championship against Andrew Balding.

With the Champions Day card at Ascot approaching next week, the competition for the title remains intense. O'Brien's recent wins have helped him close the gap, with over £4 million in prize money still available to be won.

The Dewhurst Stakes has long been a key indicator for future classic prospects. By securing this victory, Darkness Falls has firmly established himself as a horse to watch in the upcoming flat racing season.

The Triple Crown remains a rare and difficult achievement in modern racing, where breeding trends often favour speed over the stamina needed for the final leg at Doncaster. However, connections remain optimistic about the colt's potential.

Beyond the Dewhurst, the day's racing at Newmarket also saw Alphonse Le Grande secure a second victory in the Cesarewitch Handicap. Trainer Tony Martin celebrated his third win in the historic race, with Patrick McGettigan in the saddle.

The Cesarewitch, which dates back to 1839, proved a challenging test for the field. Alphonse Le Grande's win in non-consecutive years is a rare feat, placing him alongside Aaim To Prosper as one of the few to achieve this.

As the racing season moves toward its conclusion, the focus will now shift to Ascot. The performance of Darkness Falls at Newmarket has ensured that discussions regarding next year's classics will dominate the winter months.

O'Brien remains confident in the horse's development, suggesting that the step up in distance for future races will not be an issue. The colt's ability to handle different conditions and distances continues to impress his team.

The racing world will be watching closely to see if Darkness Falls can replicate the success of his sire while aiming for the ultimate prize. For now, the victory at Newmarket serves as a testament to his growing reputation.

The connections of Darkness Falls are now preparing for a winter break before beginning preparations for the 2,000 Guineas. The dream of matching Nijinsky's historic 1970 achievement remains the ultimate goal for the stable.

With the trainers' championship reaching its climax, the success of O'Brien's yard at the Future Champions Festival has been timely. The competition at Ascot will provide the final chapter in a closely fought season.

The sport looks forward to the return of these contenders next spring. As the dust settles on the Dewhurst, the prospect of a Triple Crown bid adds a layer of excitement to the upcoming flat racing calendar.
