The anticipation for the series reflects the intense interest in college hockey in Grand Forks. The venue, known locally as "The Ralph," is set to welcome a capacity crowd for both contests, with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m. on Friday and 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.

The weekend marks a significant period for sports in the region, as the university is experiencing a triple sellout. In addition to the hockey series, the UND football team's home game against South Dakota State at the Alerus Center is also sold out.

Sophomore forward Ollie Josephson, who played a versatile role for the Fighting Hawks during his freshman campaign, expressed the team's readiness for the challenge. Josephson noted that the squad has enjoyed a productive week of practice leading up to the series.

Reflecting on his transition to the collegiate level, Josephson highlighted the increased intensity of the game compared to his time in the Western Hockey League. He noted that the speed of play and the physicality of battles are significantly higher in the NCAA.

Josephson, who contributed across all situations including power play and penalty kill units last season, spent his offseason in Victoria, British Columbia. His training focused on enhancing his playmaking abilities and refining his offensive zone decision-making.

The sophomore forward also reflected on his personal history with the sport, noting that his father played professionally after a junior career with the Kamloops Blazers and Lethbridge Hurricanes. These family roots helped shape his commitment to the game.

The Fighting Hawks enter the weekend following a successful performance in their previous series. The team is aiming to maintain their momentum as they face a Bentley side that is expected to provide stiff competition on the ice.

Bentley University, based in suburban Boston, has been under the leadership of head coach Andy Jones since the summer of 2023. The program continues to focus on development and competitive growth within the college hockey landscape.

The upcoming series will also be notable for the officiating crew, as it marks the final weekend for veteran linesman Tyler Liffrig. Liffrig has been a staple of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference since its inaugural 2013-14 season.

Mike Schmitt, the NCHC's director of officiating, praised Liffrig's professional development over the years. He noted that Liffrig's dedication to learning from supervisors helped him become one of the most respected linesmen in the league.

For the Fighting Hawks, the weekend represents an opportunity to solidify their standing early in the season. The team continues to integrate prospects and returners as they navigate a demanding schedule in the competitive NCHC.

The coaching staff at UND is looking for consistent performances from their core group. Players like Josephson, who have gained valuable experience in high-pressure situations, are expected to play key roles in the team's tactical approach.

The atmosphere at Ralph Engelstad Arena is expected to be electric, given the sellout status. The venue is widely regarded as one of the premier facilities in college hockey, providing a significant home-ice advantage for the Fighting Hawks.

As the season progresses, the coaching staff will continue to evaluate line combinations and special teams units. The series against Bentley offers a chance to test these configurations against a different style of play.

The team's preparation has been thorough, with a focus on maintaining the intensity that Josephson described as a hallmark of the college game. The players are aware of the expectations that come with playing at a high-profile program.

Beyond the immediate results, the weekend serves as a celebration of the local sports culture in Grand Forks. With both football and hockey drawing maximum attendance, the community remains deeply invested in the success of the university's athletic teams.

Looking ahead, the Fighting Hawks will continue their conference campaign following the conclusion of this series. The coaching staff remains focused on long-term development while ensuring the team remains competitive in every matchup.

Fans attending the games are encouraged to arrive early to accommodate the expected crowds. The combination of the sold-out atmosphere and the quality of play on the ice promises a memorable weekend for supporters of North Dakota hockey.

The series will conclude on Saturday evening, after which the team will turn its attention to the next set of fixtures. The focus remains on building consistency and refining the tactical execution that will be required for the remainder of the season.
