The hosts controlled the match from the opening whistle, rarely appearing threatened by a lacklustre St Mirren side. The breakthrough arrived in the 20th minute when Laurent Mendy capitalised on a defensive error to fire a powerful strike past Jacob Chapman.

Calvin Miller doubled the lead in the 32nd minute after earning a penalty following a foul by Alex Gogic. Miller calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, establishing a comfortable cushion for the Jambos heading into the interval.

The second half began with further misery for the visitors. Just five minutes after the restart, substitute Liam Donnelly conceded a penalty for a foul on James Wilson, allowing Miller to step up and convert his second spot-kick of the afternoon.

The pressure continued as Hearts extended their lead in the 54th minute. Miller turned provider with a precise pass to Claudio Braga, who rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net despite the attempts of two defenders to clear.

Josh McPake, fresh from his international debut for Scotland, capped off the scoring in the 80th minute. He found space inside the penalty area to fire home from close range, completing a comprehensive performance for the home side.

The victory serves as a significant boost for Hearts ahead of their upcoming Conference League opener against Nordsjaelland this Thursday. The team remains one of the highest-scoring outfits in the Scottish top flight this season.

For St Mirren, the defeat marks their fourth consecutive loss in the league. Manager Craig McLeish expressed his frustration with the performance, noting that individual errors and avoidable penalties proved costly against a clinical opponent.

McLeish admitted that his side failed to compete effectively, stating, "It's not good enough from our point of view. We shot ourselves in the foot and gave away two penalties which are avoidable. We have to rectify it."

The visitors were forced into a late tactical reshuffle after losing Niko Agrafiotis during the pre-match warm-up. Despite the setback, McLeish insisted that the team must take collective responsibility for the heavy defeat.

Hearts manager Wouter Vrancken praised his squad’s commitment to an attacking style of play. He noted that the players have embraced his philosophy since the summer, focusing on proactive football rather than defensive reaction.

Vrancken said, "We try to play a kind of football that is positive and constructive. You want to score goals because this is the nicest feeling you have in football. It's nice to see that it worked well today."

The match saw several standout individual performances, with McPake, Miller, and Harry Milne consistently threatening the St Mirren defence. Goalkeeper Beau Reus also contributed with a vital save to deny Calvin Ramsay during the second half.

St Mirren struggled to establish any rhythm throughout the 90 minutes. Killian Phillips offered a rare moment of ambition for the visitors with a long-range effort, but the team otherwise failed to test the Hearts backline.

The result mirrors the clinical form Hearts displayed in their 6-1 win over Ross County in 2023. By maintaining their current momentum, the Edinburgh club continues to shadow Rangers and Celtic in the league standings.

The defeat leaves St Mirren searching for answers as they look to break their current losing streak. The team will need to improve their defensive discipline to avoid similar outcomes in future fixtures.

Hearts now turn their attention to European competition, hoping to carry their domestic form into the Conference League. The squad will look to build on the confidence gained from this emphatic home victory.

The match highlights the growing gap between the sides, with Hearts demonstrating superior movement and tactical execution. For Vrancken, the focus remains on maintaining this consistency throughout a demanding run of upcoming fixtures.

As the Scottish Premiership season progresses, the performance at Tynecastle serves as a reminder of the attacking potential within the Hearts squad. The team remains well-positioned to challenge for the top spots.

St Mirren will look to regroup during the coming week as they prepare for their next league challenge. The focus for the coaching staff will be on eliminating the individual errors that undermined their efforts on Saturday.
