The competition, which offers a prize of £501,000 for any challenger who can defeat the 19-year-old sensation, is scheduled to take place on 30 October. The live broadcast will originate from the Manchester Central Convention Complex later this month.

Each of the 24 participants will compete against Littler in a single leg of 501. The format is designed to test the challengers against one of the sport's most dominant figures, who has redefined youth success in professional darts.

Sherrock, a trailblazer in the sport, gained international recognition in 2019 when she became the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Championship by defeating Ted Evetts. Her inclusion highlights the diverse field of challengers.

The lineup also features emerging teenage talents, including 15-year-old Mitchell Lawrie of Scotland. Lawrie made history last year as the first teenager to reach a WDF World Championship final and is a two-time world youth champion.

Another notable participant is Jayden Walker, who recently set a record as the youngest winner of a senior WDF title by claiming the England International Open earlier this month. This record was previously held by Littler himself.

Luke Littler rose to prominence in 2024 when, at the age of 16, he reached the final of the PDC World Darts Championship. He subsequently became the youngest world champion in history by winning the 2025 title.

The 19-year-old solidified his status as the sport's premier player by successfully defending his world title 12 months later. His rapid ascent has made him a focal point for this unique televised exhibition produced by Netflix.

The selection process for the 24 challengers was rigorous, beginning with auditions held in London and Manchester throughout September. Prospective contestants were required to complete a leg of 501 in 24 darts or fewer to qualify for consideration.

Successful candidates from the initial stage advanced to interviews with show producers. The final selection was determined by a panel of experts, including 16-time world champion Phil Taylor and Matchroom founder Barry Hearn, who evaluated the hopefuls.

Professional darts player and television pundit Laura Turner also served on the judging panel to help identify the final group of challengers. The group represents a mix of established figures and rising prospects within the wider darts community.

The event aims to showcase the skill of amateur players against the backdrop of professional production. By offering a significant financial incentive, the organisers hope to create a compelling spectacle for the global audience watching the live stream.

Sherrock's recent form includes a notable victory over Beau Greaves, where she ended her opponent's 114-match winning streak in the PDC Women's Series earlier this year. She remains a prominent and highly competitive figure in the women's game.

The inclusion of younger players like Lawrie and Walker underscores the shifting landscape of darts, where teenagers are increasingly competing at the highest levels of the sport. Their presence adds a layer of intrigue to the upcoming event.

The Manchester Central Convention Complex is expected to host a capacity crowd for the live broadcast. Netflix has positioned the event as a major feature in its sports programming slate for the upcoming autumn season.

As the date approaches, anticipation continues to build regarding whether any of the 24 contestants can overcome the challenge posed by Littler. The single-leg format ensures that the outcome remains unpredictable until the final dart is thrown.

The event serves as a platform to highlight the depth of talent currently emerging in the sport. With legends like Phil Taylor involved in the selection process, the credibility of the challenge remains a priority for the production.

While Littler has dominated the professional circuit, the pressure of a single-leg match against an unknown opponent provides a unique test. The format rewards accuracy and composure under intense scrutiny from both the crowd and the cameras.

Fans of the sport will be watching closely to see how the challengers fare against the current world champion. The event is set to be one of the most-watched darts exhibitions of the year on the streaming platform.

Further details regarding the broadcast schedule and additional participants are expected to be released by Netflix ahead of the 30 October event. The primary focus remains on the clash between the established champion and the hopeful challengers.

Humphries, who secured the PDC World Championship title in January 2024, arrived in Germany in strong form. He recently reached the final of the Swiss Darts Trophy, where he was defeated by Jonny Clayton, but his campaign in Dortmund ended before it began.

Following the withdrawal, Kim Huybrechts was drafted into the tournament as a replacement. As the highest-ranked player from the 2026 European Tour rankings who had not initially qualified, the Belgian was given a late opportunity to compete on the big stage.

Huybrechts made an immediate impact, securing a dominant 6-1 victory over Ryan Searle during Thursday’s opening round. The Belgian displayed clinical form, hitting six 180s and maintaining a 67% checkout success rate throughout the contest.

Reflecting on his sudden inclusion, Huybrechts noted the unconventional preparation for his match. He received the call at 9:30 am and completed a three-hour drive to the venue, arriving with little time to spare before his encounter with Searle.

Huybrechts is now set to face Stephen Bunting in the second round. Bunting advanced to this stage after a narrow 6-5 victory against Danny Noppert, a match highlighted by a crucial 160 checkout in the deciding leg.

The opening day of the tournament was also marked by a significant milestone from Luke Woodhouse. The Englishman produced a perfect nine-dart finish during his 6-3 victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode, marking his first such achievement on a televised stage.

Woodhouse’s nine-darter occurred in the fourth leg of the match, where he hit two 180s before finishing with a 141 checkout. He remained composed following the feat, focusing on maintaining his lead to secure the win.

Looking ahead, Woodhouse is scheduled to play defending champion Gian van Veen in the last 16. Van Veen earned his spot in the next round by overcoming Andrew Gilding 6-4 in a competitive opening encounter.

Elsewhere in the draw, Damon Heta progressed after a tense 6-5 victory over James Wade. Heta will now face Ross Smith, who navigated a difficult match against Karel Sedlacek to win 6-4.

Gerwyn Price also secured a comfortable passage to the next round, defeating Rob Cross 6-2. Price is set to meet Cameron Menzies in the last 16, after Menzies defeated Niels Zonneveld 6-3 on the opening day.

The tournament continues on Friday, with world number one and current PDC world champion Luke Littler set to begin his campaign. Littler will face William O'Connor as he looks to make his mark on the European Championship.

The European Championship remains one of the most prestigious events on the PDC calendar, featuring the top performers from the European Tour. The absence of Humphries, a consistent force in major tournaments, changes the landscape of the competition.

Huybrechts expressed his surprise at the turn of events, stating that he was dancing around his house upon receiving the news of his entry. He plans to return home before deciding on his approach for the remainder of the week.

The standard of play on the opening day in Dortmund highlighted the high level of competition currently seen in professional darts. With nine-darters and high-pressure finishes becoming more frequent, the tournament promises further drama in the coming days.

As the field narrows, the focus shifts to the remaining contenders who will battle for the title. The event in Dortmund is expected to draw significant attention as the world's best players compete for the championship trophy.

The tournament structure, which sees winners of the first round advance to the last 16, ensures that every match carries high stakes. With the top seeds now entering the fray, the intensity is expected to increase significantly.

Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how the draw unfolds following the early exit of Humphries. The performance of players like Littler and Van Veen will be central to the narrative as the competition progresses through the weekend.

The PDC continues to oversee a packed schedule, with the European Championship serving as a key indicator of form ahead of the year-end major events. The quality of play displayed on Thursday suggests a highly competitive tournament ahead.

Further updates on the tournament results and the progress of the remaining players will be provided as the event continues in Germany. The second round promises to be a pivotal stage in determining the eventual winner.

The final contest remained tightly contested in the early stages, with the score locked at 4-4. Clayton then produced a decisive surge, winning four consecutive legs to secure the trophy. His clinical finishing proved the difference, as he converted his opportunities while Humphries struggled on his doubles.

Clayton recorded a checkout success rate of 61.54%, significantly higher than the 22.22% managed by Humphries. Although the two players finished with nearly identical match averages—101.68 for Clayton and 101.75 for Humphries—the Welshman's ability to close out legs was the deciding factor.

The turning point occurred in the 10th leg. Following nine consecutive holds of throw, Clayton secured a crucial break by checking out 26. He subsequently held his own throw on tops before sealing the victory with a 46 checkout on double 16.

Clayton hit six 180s during the final, compared to four from Humphries. Reflecting on the match, Clayton noted that his opponent's missed doubles provided him with the necessary openings to take control of the game and secure the win.

"It was a great game and a great game to be involved in. Luke on his doubles gave me the chance," Clayton said. He added that beating a player of Humphries' calibre was essential for his confidence heading into the final stages of the season.

To reach the final, Clayton navigated a challenging path, starting his day with a 6-4 victory over Rob Cross in the last-16. He followed this with a 6-2 quarter-final win against Karel Sedlacek, where he reeled off two sets of three consecutive legs.

In the semi-finals, Clayton defeated world number three Gian van Veen 7-4. During that match, he maintained an impressive 105 average and produced a highlight 161 checkout on the bullseye to establish a lead he would not relinquish.

Luke Humphries entered the final following a series of strong performances in Basel. He began his campaign with a 6-0 win over Krzysztof Ratajski, followed by a 6-3 victory against Cristo Reyes. In the semi-finals, he overcame Mensur Suljovic 7-4.

Humphries had been in exceptional form during his semi-final, recording a 111.17 average against Suljovic. Despite trailing 2-0 early in that match, he responded by winning four consecutive legs, including three 13-dart efforts, to turn the momentum in his favour.

Mensur Suljovic reached the semi-finals after an emphatic 6-1 victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode in the quarter-finals. This marked the Austrian's first appearance in a European Tour semi-final since 2021, highlighting a return to form for the veteran player.

Gian van Veen also demonstrated resilience in the quarter-finals, rallying from a three-leg deficit to defeat Bradley Brooks in a 6-5 last-leg decider. His progression to the semi-finals underscored the high level of competition present throughout the tournament.

The Swiss Darts Trophy is a key event on the European Tour calendar. For Clayton, this win provides a significant boost, as it guarantees his participation in the Grand Slam of Darts, scheduled to take place in Wolverhampton from November 14-22.

Clayton expressed satisfaction with his current form and mental approach to the game. He emphasised that winning tournaments requires consistent performances against the best players on the circuit, a standard he felt both finalists maintained throughout the weekend.

The European Tour continues to be a vital platform for players to climb the rankings and secure spots in major televised events. The high standard of play in Basel reflected the intense competition currently seen across the professional darts circuit this year.

With the Swiss Darts Trophy concluded, focus now shifts to the upcoming major tournaments. The Grand Slam of Darts will be followed by the World Darts Championship, which is set to run from December 11 to January 3.

Clayton's victory serves as a reminder of his capability to perform under pressure on the big stage. Having secured his first ranking title of the year, he will look to carry this momentum into the final months of the 2026 season.

The tournament in Basel showcased the depth of talent currently competing on the European Tour. With players like Humphries and Van Veen consistently pushing the world's best, the standard of scoring and finishing continues to reach new heights.

As the season approaches its conclusion, the qualification race for the year-end major events remains highly competitive. Clayton's success in Switzerland ensures he remains a prominent figure in the upcoming televised schedule.

The professional darts circuit will continue to provide high-stakes action as players compete for ranking points and major titles. Fans can follow the remaining events of the year as the sport builds toward the World Darts Championship.

The match reached a tense conclusion as the two players were deadlocked at 5-5 in a best-of-11-legs encounter. With the score level, Smith held two match darts at double 18, but his concentration was disrupted by the crowd's reaction.

During the deciding leg, Suljovic gestured towards the spectators, seemingly prompting them to increase the volume of their boos while Smith was attempting to throw. Smith subsequently missed his target, allowing Suljovic the opportunity to capitalise.

Suljovic took full advantage of the opening, successfully hitting double 10 with his final dart to secure the victory. The win advanced the Austrian to the next stage of the tournament, while Smith was eliminated.

Following the conclusion of the match, Smith took to social media to voice his frustrations regarding the incident. He acknowledged his own role in the defeat while condemning the behaviour displayed by his opponent on the stage.

Smith wrote, "I don't blame Mensur for me losing that game. I missed two match darts. Simple as that." He added that he was unaware of the specific gestures being made while he was focused on his throw.

The Englishman further remarked on the nature of the interaction, stating, "If he wants to be an absolute helmet that's on him – karma will come around." He maintained that his primary disappointment stemmed from his own missed opportunities.

This incident is not the first time Suljovic has been involved in controversy during a professional darts match. The Austrian has previously faced scrutiny regarding his conduct and pace of play during high-profile tournaments.

In a notable incident during a World Championship clash last December, Joe Cullen expressed frustration with Suljovic. Cullen described the Austrian’s pace of play as problematic, suggesting that the delays were detrimental to the flow of the match.

At that time, referee Kirk Bevans was required to intervene to manage the situation. Cullen had alleged that the time taken by Suljovic to recover his darts and celebrate was excessive, leading to a heated exchange between the players.

In response to the accusations made by Cullen last year, Suljovic denied any intent to provoke his opponent. He insisted that his actions were solely focused on maintaining his own rhythm and concentration during the game.

Suljovic stated at the time, "I never, ever do this as a provocation. I do it only for my game. I like my game – I never do it to be a villain." He apologised to Cullen, claiming his actions were misunderstood.

The Swiss Darts Trophy continues to be a significant event on the PDC calendar, drawing top-tier talent from across the globe. Players compete for ranking points and prize money as they look to build momentum for the season's conclusion.

Darts fans are currently looking ahead to the upcoming Grand Slam of Darts, which is scheduled to take place in Wolverhampton. The tournament is set to run from November 14 to November 22, featuring the sport's elite.

Following the Grand Slam, the focus of the darting world will shift towards the World Darts Championship. That prestigious event is slated to begin on December 11 and will conclude in early January.

The PDC circuit remains highly competitive, with players constantly vying for positions in the world rankings. Incidents such as the one in Switzerland often spark debate regarding sportsmanship and the influence of crowd behaviour.

Professional darts matches are governed by strict rules regarding player conduct and stage etiquette. Officials are tasked with ensuring that the environment remains fair for all competitors, regardless of the intensity of the match.

As the season progresses, players like Smith and Suljovic will continue their campaigns on the professional circuit. Both will be aiming to put the recent controversy behind them as they prepare for their next scheduled fixtures.

The Swiss Darts Trophy serves as a reminder of the fine margins in professional darts. With matches often decided by a single dart, any external distraction can have a profound impact on the final result.

The qualification spots were confirmed during a weekend dominated by Beau Greaves, who continued her exceptional form by winning both Event 21 and Event 22. The Doncaster-based star extended her record-breaking tally to 61 Women's Series titles during the bumper day of competition.

Fallon Sherrock, often referred to as 'The Queen of the Palace', is set to return to Alexandra Palace for the seventh time in her career. Her qualification was confirmed after she secured a spot in the top five of the Women's Series Order of Merit.

Sherrock famously made history at the 2020 World Championship by becoming the first woman to win matches at the event. She defeated Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic during that historic run, cementing her status as a trailblazer in the sport.

Gemma Hayter also booked her return to the World Championship stage after a successful run to the final of Event 22. Her consistent performance throughout the year, including reaching three finals, ensured her place in the top five of the rankings.

Hayter, who previously won the 2026 WDF World Masters title, made her debut at the World Championship last year. Despite a loss to Josh Rock in her opening match, she impressed with her performance, taking a set off her opponent.

In the Event 21 final, Beau Greaves faced Sweden's Vicky Pruim. Greaves maintained her composure in a high-quality encounter, firing a 13-darter to secure a 5-3 victory and claim the title after a dominant day of darts.

Earlier in Event 21, Greaves showcased her scoring power by averaging over 101 in a quarter-final victory against Rhian O'Sullivan. She followed this with a 5-0 win over Fallon Sherrock in the semi-finals to reach the decider.

The Event 22 final saw Greaves take on Gemma Hayter. Despite little separating the two players for much of the match, Greaves eventually overcame some late double trouble to win 5-3 and complete her double success for the day.

Greaves' path to the Event 22 final included a hard-fought victory over Lisa Ashton. Greaves recovered from a 3-1 deficit, capitalising on missed match darts from the Lancashire stalwart to eventually progress through the bracket.

Lisa Ashton remains a key figure in the women's game and is now assured of a second-place finish on the Women's Series rankings. She is also set to feature in the upcoming Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts in November.

The qualification picture for the World Championship is becoming clearer as the season nears its conclusion. Alongside Greaves, Sherrock, and Hayter, Vicky Pruim is currently in a strong position to secure the final qualification spot via the rankings.

The Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan hosted the latest stages of the series, which has seen intense competition throughout the year. The 2026 PDC Women's Series season is scheduled to conclude with Events 23 and 24 on Sunday.

Fans can follow the conclusion of the Women's Series on Sunday as the final two events determine the remaining rankings. The results will be pivotal for those still vying for a place at the Alexandra Palace showpiece.

The match saw Suljovic establish a commanding 5-2 lead, putting him on the brink of victory. Although Van Gerwen attempted a late comeback, he missed three crucial darts to force a deciding leg, allowing his opponent to secure the win.

This result marks the fourth consecutive victory for Suljovic over the Dutchman. Furthermore, it is the fifth time in six tournaments this year that Van Gerwen has been knocked out after his opening match in the competition.

The defeat in Basel is statistically significant, as it is the first time Van Gerwen has lost his opening match in four different European Tour events within the same season since the series began back in 2012.

Elsewhere in the tournament, World Grand Prix champion Luke Humphries successfully navigated his way into Finals Day. He overcame Kevin Doets in a tense deciding leg after initially racing into a 3-0 lead with impressive 122 and 121 checkouts.

Reflecting on his performance, Humphries noted that he felt he was the better player for the majority of the contest. He acknowledged the pressure applied by Doets, who maintained a high scoring average of 105.64 throughout the match.

Jonny Clayton delivered one of the most clinical performances of the day, averaging 108.81 in a 6-1 victory against Maik Kuivenhoven. The Welshman landed two bullseye finishes to set up a clash with Rob Cross in the next round.

Rob Cross advanced to the last 16 after overcoming a mid-match fightback from Luke Woodhouse. The former world champion eventually closed out a 6-4 victory to maintain his progression through the tournament bracket on a busy Saturday.

The tournament saw a significant shake-up as reigning champion Stephen Bunting was eliminated. Swedish player Jeffrey de Graaf produced a clinical display of finishing to defeat Bunting, ensuring there will be a new champion crowned on Sunday evening.

Martin Schindler, another former champion, was also ousted from the competition. He was defeated by Tom Bissell, who secured his first-ever appearance at Finals Day on the European Tour circuit following a composed performance in Basel.

Dirk van Duijvenbode recorded a fifth straight win against James Wade, ending the latter's hopes of securing back-to-back European Tour titles. Van Duijvenbode will now face Michael Smith in the last 16 of the competition on Sunday.

Michael Smith produced one of his strongest performances of the year to defeat Jermaine Wattimena 6-4. Smith converted consecutive checkouts of 116, 124, and 144, averaging just under 103 to keep his European Championship qualification hopes alive.

The day was marked by a high number of upsets, with ten seeded players crashing out of the competition. The tournament structure now moves into the final stages, with the last 16 matches scheduled for Sunday morning.
