Hussey's new role commences with the upcoming white-ball series in the format of One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals against England at home this month. His tenure will subsequently cover major fixtures including next year's Ashes series, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and future T20 World Cup campaigns.

Speaking on his official appointment, Hussey expressed enthusiasm about formally joining the national team structure on a long-term basis. The former left-hander noted that the squad has achieved remarkable success recently and aims to contribute further value to both the coaching staff and the playing roster.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald welcomed the addition, highlighting Hussey's diverse skill set and extensive knowledge across multiple formats and global leagues. McDonald emphasized that the former international player offers complementary expertise alongside exceptional personal qualities that benefit the group.

Hussey previously built a strong coaching reputation through various high-profile domestic and international assignments. His notable prior achievements include working with England's coaching team during their successful campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, in addition to multiple coaching stints in the Indian Premier League and The Hundred.

As part of his advisor responsibilities, Hussey will focus heavily on the shortest format of the game, providing specialized expertise in campaign strategies, opposition analysis, player scouting, and overall performance optimization. His tactical insights are expected to bolster Australia's preparation for upcoming global tournaments.

During an illustrious eight-year international career that concluded at the start of 2013, Hussey represented Australia in more than 300 matches across all formats. He accumulated 19 Test centuries and earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and adaptable middle-order batters in cricket history.

The inclusion of the experienced former batter strengthens Australia's backroom staff as they enter a demanding schedule of international fixtures. The coaching group aims to maintain the team's competitive edge across Test, ODI, and T20 formats while developing new talent for future global challenges.
