Record-breaking midfielder Jess Fishlock and former men's manager Chris Coleman were among the notable figures honoured at a gala event in Cardiff.

Wales' record-breaking midfielder Jess Fishlock and former men's national team manager Chris Coleman have been formally inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame. The prestigious ceremony took place in Cardiff on Thursday evening, celebrating significant contributions to Welsh sport.

Fishlock, 39, was hailed as the country's greatest-ever footballer during the event. The midfielder, who earned 166 caps and scored 48 goals for her country, is currently preparing for the final matches of her distinguished 25-year club career in the United States.

The Welsh Sports Hall of Fame made a rare exception to its rules to honour Fishlock while she is still active. Typically, the organisation only inducts athletes following their retirement, with boxing icon Joe Calzaghe being the only other individual to receive such dispensation.

Laura McAllister, a former Wales international and current UEFA Vice-President, presented the award to Fishlock. She described the midfielder as a role model who has achieved success throughout her career, solidifying her status as the best footballer Wales has produced.

Although Fishlock was unable to attend in person due to her commitments with Seattle Reign, she expressed her gratitude via a video message. She highlighted reaching Euro 2025 as the crowning achievement of her international career, noting the unique pride of representing her nation.

Fishlock is set to transition into a coaching role following her retirement from club football. She will join Rhian Wilkinson’s staff for next month's crucial play-offs against Norway, as Wales aim to qualify for their first-ever women's World Cup.

Chris Coleman was also honoured for his transformative tenure as the manager of the Wales men's national team. He was praised for his leadership during the historic Euro 2016 campaign, which saw the side reach the semi-finals of a major tournament.

Appointed in 2012 following the tragic passing of Gary Speed, Coleman oversaw a remarkable rise for the men's team. Under his guidance, Wales climbed from 117th in the FIFA world rankings to reach a peak of eighth position.

The gala event also recognised several other prominent figures in Welsh sporting history. Among the inductees were former Swansea City forward Alan Curtis and ex-Burnley winger Brian Flynn, who also served as the Wales Under-21 manager.

A posthumous tribute was paid to the 1976 national side members, including goalkeeper Dai Davies, winger Leighton James, and full-back Joey Jones. The group was honoured for reaching the quarter-finals of the European Championships that year.

Mickey Thomas, a former Manchester United and Chelsea player who earned 51 caps for Wales, was also inducted. Thomas attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of his close friend, the late Joey Jones.

Dual international Nia Jones was another notable addition to the Hall of Fame. She was recognised for her dual success in netball and her career as a football international, having earned 30 caps for the national side.

The ceremony also included a posthumous induction for referee Mervyn 'Sandy' Griffiths. The Abertillery official famously took charge of the 1953 'Matthews' FA Cup final and officiated at three separate World Cup tournaments during his career.

The event coincided with the 150th anniversary of the Football Association of Wales. The focus on football was particularly fitting given the historic milestone, with many of the inductees having played pivotal roles in the nation's footballing identity.

The Welsh Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1989, with rugby league legend Sir Billy Boston being the first individual to be honoured. The organisation has since recognised more than 236 sportspeople over the past three decades.

The evening began with a respectful tribute to Sir Billy Boston, who passed away earlier this year. His legacy remains a cornerstone of the organisation, which continues to preserve the history of Welsh sporting achievements.

In addition to the inductions, the charity organisation announced new plans for the future. They intend to establish a permanent home for their extensive collection of historical sports memorabilia at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport.

The ceremony was attended by various distinguished guests, including former inductee and Wales rugby great Sir Gareth Edwards. The presence of such figures underscored the significance of the Hall of Fame in celebrating Welsh sporting culture.

As Fishlock prepares for her final club matches, her legacy as a trailblazer for women's football in Wales appears secure. Her upcoming involvement in the coaching setup reflects her ongoing commitment to the development of the national team.

The induction of Coleman and the other footballing greats serves as a reminder of the progress made by Welsh teams on the international stage. The Hall of Fame continues to act as a vital repository for the nation's sporting heritage.

Tyson Fury has confirmed his training camp preparations as he gears up to face Anthony Joshua at the Principality Stadium on 11 December.

Tyson Fury has unveiled his selection of sparring partners as he intensifies his training camp for the highly anticipated heavyweight clash against Anthony Joshua. The two British rivals are scheduled to meet on 11 December at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The fight, which has been the subject of speculation for nearly a decade, will be broadcast live on Netflix. Fury, 38, confirmed his preparations on Thursday by sharing a social media post featuring his training team dressed in Viking-themed attire.

Fury’s chosen sparring partners for this camp include fellow Briton Joe Joyce, American heavyweight Jarrell Miller, and the undefeated Russian prospect Aleksei Dronov. The group is working under the guidance of Fury’s long-time coach, Sugarhill Steward.

Joe Joyce, an Olympic silver medalist, brings significant experience to the camp. His professional career includes notable victories over Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker, though he has faced recent setbacks against Zhilei Zhang and Derek Chisora.

Jarrell Miller also joins the camp, bringing a history of high-profile associations with the division. Miller was famously slated to face Joshua in 2019 before being replaced, and he has since competed against notable names like Daniel Dubois and Andy Ruiz Jr.

The third partner, Aleksei Dronov, represents the younger generation of heavyweights. The 24-year-old Russian is currently undefeated as a professional with a record of 12-0, including 10 victories by way of knockout.

Reflecting on his training progress, Fury expressed high levels of satisfaction with his current form. He noted that he has already completed multiple rounds of sparring and is currently engaged in his third fight camp of the 2026 calendar year.

In a statement regarding his mindset, Fury said: "Camp is my happy place and I'm as happy as ever at 38 years old. Very good vibes in camp, feeling fantastic as good as ever."

The heavyweight division remains in a state of flux, with various titles currently held by different fighters. Fury has made his intentions clear, stating his ambition to become a three-time world heavyweight champion through this upcoming bout.

The event in Cardiff is expected to be a major spectacle for British boxing. Beyond the main event, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that former world champion Joe Cordina is set to face Manny Pacquiao on the undercard.

The build-up to the December showdown has been marked by intense media interest and various rumours regarding the involvement of external promoters. However, officials have maintained that the event is firmly on track for its scheduled date.

As the fight approaches, both camps are expected to continue their preparations behind closed doors. The selection of diverse sparring partners suggests Fury is looking to replicate various styles to ensure he is ready for Joshua’s specific approach.

Anthony Joshua enters the fight following a period of significant transition in his own career. The former unified champion remains one of the most prominent figures in the sport, and this bout is viewed as a defining moment for his legacy.

The Principality Stadium is expected to reach capacity for the contest, reflecting the immense public interest in a fight that has been discussed by fans and pundits for years. Security and logistics for the event are currently being finalised.

While Fury focuses on his sparring sessions, the wider heavyweight landscape continues to evolve. Other champions, including Filip Hrgovic, have recently commented on the state of the division, highlighting the competitive nature of the top-tier rankings.

Fury’s commitment to his training regime at age 38 has been a focal point of his recent public comments. He has emphasised the importance of his faith and his physical conditioning as he prepares for the rigours of the 12-round contest.

The inclusion of a Russian prospect like Dronov in the camp indicates a desire to face fresh, hungry opposition during training. Such preparation is standard for elite fighters looking to maintain their edge against top-level competition.

Fans have been eager for an official date since the fight was first confirmed by Netflix. With the venue and date now locked in, the focus shifts entirely to the physical and tactical preparations of both athletes.

As the countdown to 11 December continues, the boxing world will be watching closely to see how both men perform in their respective camps. The fight is widely considered the biggest heavyweight contest in British boxing history.

Further updates regarding the undercard and media events are expected in the coming weeks as the promotion for the Cardiff event ramps up. For now, Fury remains focused on his training in the lead-up to the winter showdown.

Organisers have unveiled the full street-by-street routes for the historic 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes UK Grand Depart.

The street-by-street details for the six British-based stages that will start both the men and women editions of the 2027 Tour de France have been revealed by race organisers. The announcement was made during a ceremony hosted by ASO at Paris Palais de Congres on Thursday.

The three-week men race gets under way with a stage from Edinburgh to Carlisle on 2 July. It is followed by a route between Keswick and Liverpool before Wales hosts a third and final grand depart stage from Welshpool to Cardiff on 4 July.

The women event starts on 30 July with a race from Leeds to Manchester, before moving back across the Pennines to Yorkshire with a finish in Sheffield. A testing team time trial around the streets of central London will complete the opening section of that nine-stage race.

The collaboration is a first for both races in a Super Grand Depart. Men race director Christian Prudhomme said that just a few weeks apart, the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will each take their respective pelotons on a journey through the roads of the United Kingdom.

Prudhomme highlighted the symbolic nature of hosting both pelotons in Great Britain, noting the historic significance of starting at the foot of Edinburgh Castle and concluding the opening phase with a London time trial on 1 August.

Stage one of the men race covers a distance of 184 kilometres heading south from Edinburgh across the border into Carlisle. The route features a demanding 2.2-kilometre climb up the Cote de Melrose located near the birthplace of young Ineos contender Oscar Onley.

Stage two presents a grueling 223-kilometre journey starting from Keswick within the Lake District and finishing in Liverpool. Riders will face five categorised climbs and a cumulative total of 2,800 metres of ascending over the course of the day.

The final British stage of the men competition takes place on 4 July, running 223 kilometres from Welshpool in northern Wales to the capital city of Cardiff. The route includes eight categorised hills and approximately 3,000 metres of climbing.

The opening stage of the Tour de France Femmes begins on Friday, 30 July, covering 85.7 kilometres from Leeds to Manchester. The route incorporates three notable climbs, including the Cote de Meltham which stretches 3.2 kilometres at an average gradient of 8.4 percent.

Stage two of the women race takes the peloton 154.4 kilometres from Manchester to Sheffield. Competitors will tackle seven climbs during the day, featuring the punishing Winnats Pass in the Peak District which measures 1.4 kilometres at an average gradient of 12.3 percent.

The opening section of the women race concludes with an 18-kilometre team time trial around central London. The route begins on Whitehall, passes through Trafalgar Square and Tower Bridge, and finishes in front of crowds along The Mall.

Paul Bush, managing director of the Grand Depart GB 2027 project, addressed the auditorium during the presentation to describe the occasion as an extraordinary and historic moment for cycling fans across Scotland, England, and Wales.

Bush specifically praised the women team time trial as a memorable addition that will pass through the heart of London and finish on The Mall for the first time in the modern history of the competition.

UK Government sports minister Stephanie Peacock also welcomed the announcement, confirming that an investment of 32 million pounds will fund the races alongside a lasting legacy program designed to benefit the public long after the final rider crosses the finish line.

Previous visits by the Tour de France to the United Kingdom include stages held in London during 1974, 1994, and 2007, followed by the highly successful Yorkshire Grand Depart in 2014 which drew massive roadside crowds.

When the race last visited Yorkshire in 2014, more than 2.5 million spectators lined the route to watch the opening stages of the men competition. That event triggered a significant surge in national cycling participation and inspired the creation of the Tour de Yorkshire.

Although the Tour de Yorkshire eventually left the professional calendar after struggling to recover from the disruptions of the Covid pandemic, British cycling has continued to maintain a strong presence at the elite international level.

Interest in the sport had previously fluctuated as legendary sprinter Mark Cavendish and four-time yellow jersey winner Chris Froome gradually stepped away from their dominant positions at the peak of international cycling.

However, the 2026 season witnessed a record participation of 49 British riders competing across both the men and women World Tour pelotons, supported by notable victories including Matt Brennan securing five stage wins at the Vuelta a Espana in September.

Organisers anticipate that the 2027 Super Grand Depart will generate immense excitement among supporters and further cement the United Kingdom status as a major destination for world-class international cycling events over the coming years.

IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic has cast doubt on Anthony Joshua's career longevity following the Briton's recent performances in the ring.

IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic has publicly questioned whether Anthony Joshua should continue his professional boxing career. The Croatian heavyweight expressed his concerns during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show on Wednesday, citing Joshua's recent form as a primary reason for his skepticism.

Hrgovic’s comments arrive less than two months before the highly anticipated showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. The two British heavyweights are scheduled to face each other on 11 December 2026 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The IBF titleholder pointed specifically to Joshua's performance against Kristian Prenga in July. Although Joshua secured a knockout victory in a two-round contest in Riyadh, he was floored twice by his opponent early in the fight, a moment Hrgovic described as concerning.

Hrgovic stated, "I think he's done. He shouldn't be fighting anymore. But he wants to do, of course, one more fight. I think he's going to make a huge amount of money, and he's doing it because of that."

The 37-year-old Joshua has faced a challenging period in his career. Since his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, he has struggled to regain his status as a world-level contender, having fought only twice in the interim.

Beyond his recent ring performances, Joshua has navigated significant personal adversity, including injuries and the emotional toll of a car accident that resulted in the loss of two close friends. These factors have contributed to a difficult phase for the former champion.

Hrgovic emphasized the inherent dangers of the sport when discussing why he believes Joshua should consider retirement. He noted that boxing is fundamentally different from other sports, where athletes can prolong their careers despite declining physical attributes.

"It's a dangerous sport. It's a war. And I think you come to a point where you can't fight anymore. You can't mess around with boxing," Hrgovic added during the interview, reflecting on the risks involved at the elite level.

Looking ahead to the upcoming December clash, Hrgovic suggested that he does not expect the winner of the Joshua-Fury bout to pursue a unification fight with him. He believes both men are currently past their prime, regardless of the result.

The heavyweight division is currently undergoing a period of transition. While Joshua and Fury prepare for their December meeting, other titleholders, including WBO champion Daniel Dubois and WBC titleholder Agit Kabayel, remain active within the Queensberry Promotions stable.

Hrgovic, who holds a professional record of 21 wins and one defeat with 16 knockouts, also offered a critical assessment of the wider heavyweight landscape. He dismissed several other titleholders as "fake champions" during his assessment of the current division.

The Croatian specifically criticized Daniel Dubois, who recently secured a victory over Fabio Wardley at the O2 Arena in London on 17 October. Hrgovic suggested that the current hierarchy of the division does not reflect true championship quality.

Despite the criticism from his peers, the focus remains firmly on the upcoming Cardiff event. The bout between Joshua and Fury is expected to be one of the most significant events in the 2026 boxing calendar, drawing massive global interest.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff has been confirmed as the venue for the December encounter. The fight is expected to have implications for the WBA (Super) heavyweight title, adding further stakes to the long-awaited contest between the two rivals.

As the date approaches, the boxing world continues to debate the readiness of both fighters. While Hrgovic remains skeptical of Joshua's prospects, the upcoming bout will provide a definitive answer regarding the current standing of both men in the division.

The heavyweight landscape continues to evolve, with various promotional entities and fighters maneuvering for position. With unification bouts potentially on the horizon for 2027, the results of the final months of 2026 will be crucial for the division's future.

Hrgovic remains a key figure in the IBF rankings and continues to monitor the activities of his fellow champions. His recent comments highlight the intense scrutiny that top-tier heavyweights face as they navigate the later stages of their careers.

For now, the boxing community awaits the December 11 event in Cardiff. The outcome will likely shape the narrative for the heavyweight division heading into the new year, potentially setting the stage for further unification opportunities.

The sport of boxing remains as unpredictable as ever, with veteran fighters often facing difficult decisions regarding their future. Hrgovic’s intervention serves as a reminder of the high stakes involved in every professional appearance for these elite athletes.

As the year concludes, the focus will shift from the speculation surrounding Joshua's career to the reality of his performance in the ring against Fury, a fight that promises to be a defining moment for both competitors.

UFC president Dana White praises Eddie Hearn for securing the UK venue but dismisses their ongoing promotional feud.

UFC president and Zuffa Boxing chief Dana White has publicly credited promoter Eddie Hearn for ensuring that the long-awaited heavyweight showdown between British boxing stars Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will take place inside the United Kingdom rather than abroad.

The blockbuster heavyweight encounter is officially scheduled to be hosted at the iconic Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, marking a massive domestic homecoming for the two elite fighters after months of complex international negotiations regarding the final venue location.

Initial preferences and behind-the-scenes discussions involving various organizers, including elements within the American promotional landscape and prominent Saudi Arabian backers, had heavily favored staging the high-profile fixture at New York's historic Madison Square Garden.

However, Anthony Joshua and his long-time promoter Eddie Hearn steadfastly refused to compromise on their contractual rights, insisting with absolute firmness that the historic sporting encounter had to be staged on home soil for British supporters.

Speaking in detail on the 5 Live Boxing with Bunce podcast hosted by well-known broadcaster Steve Bunce, White acknowledged the relentless effort and determination required by the Matchroom Boxing chairman to keep the monumental event within British borders.

You've got to give credit to Eddie for really grinding that and making sure that it happened in the UK, White stated during his appearance on the combat sports podcast, recognizing his rival's persistence in the venue tug-of-war.

Despite the positive resolution regarding the physical location of the event, the build-up has been consistently overshadowed by a bitter public dispute over executive promotional roles involving White, Hearn, and veteran British promoter Frank Warren.

The upcoming heavyweight bout has been officially presented to the public as an unprecedented collaborative venture between Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh's publication, The Ring, and White's newly established Zuffa Boxing commercial entity.

Tensions between the promotional figureheads escalated sharply earlier this year following the official launch of Zuffa Boxing, leading to a public feud between Hearn and White that repeatedly threatened to derail the collaborative efforts behind the scenes.

Hearn had previously insisted publicly that White would have no operational involvement whatsoever in the promotion of the fixture, claiming flatly during media appearances that the American's participation simply would not be happening.

Doubts surrounding the structural organization and unified management of the fight card eventually prompted both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua to step forward directly and host a joint news conference on September 30 to ease widespread public concerns.

Although Dana White was conspicuously absent from that particular media event held in London, he maintained an uncompromising stance regarding his operational responsibilities and authority for the actual night of the fight itself.

Me and my team will be producing the fight that night, White asserted during his extensive podcast interview, clarifying his expected logistical footprint and commercial involvement on the evening of the major competition.

I guess we'll call me one of the promoters of the event because you do have Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn that are both promoters too, promoting the event, the UFC executive added, outlining the multi-promoter structure of the venture.

Frank Warren serves as the primary promoter representing Tyson Fury, operating alongside Eddie Hearn who guides the storied career of Anthony Joshua under the established Matchroom Boxing promotional banner in the United Kingdom.

While Hearn has repeatedly maintained in interviews that White could not act as a formal promoter for the bout, the British promoter recently suggested a sudden willingness to sit down with his American counterpart to clear the air.

Hearn indicated to journalists that he was prepared to meet with White to discuss how the American could potentially fit into the collaborative promotional framework for the lucrative December fight card in the Welsh capital.

However, White quickly dismissed the necessity of any formal sit-down meeting, expressing his profound exhaustion and weariness with the ongoing public verbal sparring between the two high-profile promotional leaders.

I'm actually bored with this now. Who cares? This isn't about me and Eddie Hearn, White declared during the podcast, shifting the focus entirely back toward the two athletes who will ultimately trade blows inside the ring.

It's about AJ and Fury. It's about this heavyweight fight, White continued, emphasizing with strong conviction that the sheer magnitude of the athletic contest vastly supersedes any administrative or executive disagreements between promoters.

It's an Eddie show, not a Dana and Eddie show. It's boring now. This is about AJ and Fury, White added, reiterating firmly that the sporting spotlight rightly belongs to the fighters rather than the backroom staff.

This was never the Dana and Eddie show. It's been all the Eddie show, White concluded, attempting to draw a definitive and final line under the weeks of collaborative friction that have dominated boxing headlines.

The heavyweight clash is officially set for December 11, with the main card beginning late in the evening and the anticipated ringwalks stretching deep into the early hours of December 12 for international audiences.

Boxing fans and industry observers demonstrated unprecedented demand for the historic matchup, with tickets priced up to an astonishing 13,000 pounds completely selling out within a remarkable one-hour window via official Ticketmaster channels.

Discussions regarding the local logistics and crowd management in Cardiff have even raised the fascinating possibility of the Principality Stadium remaining open until 3:30am to safely accommodate the massive live audience in attendance.

The blockbuster event is also slated to be broadcast globally via Netflix, bringing the historic British heavyweight rivalry directly to millions of digital streaming subscribers around the world on fight night.

Adding substantial intrigue to the overall fight card, rumors have surfaced regarding potential marquee matchups on the undercard, including discussions involving cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia and former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

As the December 11 date rapidly approaches, both training camps are expected to finalize their rigorous preparations and media schedules, leaving the complex promotional governance largely settled behind the scenes in Cardiff.

The ultimate resolution of the venue dispute ensures that British boxing fans will experience the long-awaited collision between Fury and Joshua live in Cardiff rather than across the Atlantic Ocean in the United States.

With tickets entirely exhausted and high-profile broadcast plans securely in place, attention now shifts decisively to the physical preparations of the two heavyweights as they train relentlessly for their monumental encounter.
